I went to my local pet store on Monday and purchased my first frog. I got a whites tree frog because after doing research, it seemed like the easiest for a beginner. I came home and set up the tank the way I was told to by the people at the store and the articles I had read. Everything was looking fantastic. My little guy didn't move much, but I assumed that was because he was some place new and probably a little nervous from the car ride and being handled more than he was used to (picked up by two people, and was probably held for a combination of a minute). I had fed him a cricket on Tuesday, and it was gone by the time I had gotten home from classes and he was climbing the plants and looked up be having a good time. I came home last night, (two days after getting him) and he was wedged underneath his water dish and was a brownish color (his skin was a bright green when I got him) I don't know if this is was just for camo or if something was wrong at this point. I picked up the water dish, cleaned it out and changed the water. I then moved my little guy over so I could put the dish back down. I then sprayed the tank with mist like I was informed to do, and some of the water hit my frog. He didn't seem to mind this at first, he just flinched a little bit, but not much more than that. Within 30 seconds my frog seemed to be have a seziure with all his legs spread out and crawling around with all his muscles contracting. He stayed like this for 5ish minutes without moving and it didn't look like he was breathing. I thought he was dead and was going to pick him up to take him to the pet store in the morning, but he started to move again. he was jumping around his tank and climbing up and down the plants and seemed to be having a good time. I then went to bed thinking that it was really weird, but couldn't find anything online about it. I came down stairs this morning to my little guy dead (I really think so this time). If anyone knows what happened, I would appreciate talking. Was it a my fault that this happened or something that was uncontrollable? Thanks .
I'm not really informed on white trees, but what kind of water were you using in the tank? Did u take the frog back to the pet store.. They should replace it, especially if it was nothing you did., it could have already been sick
Welcome to Frog Forum and sorry for your frog's death!
Would check with your store and see if they have an extended warranty for frogs. If you used tap water without a conditioner to remove chlorine, chloramines, and heavy metals; it could be bad and the cause of your frogs demise.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
I used bottled water with the frog. I plan on taking the frog into the pet store tonight and see what I can do. I feel terrible about it
Bottled water could be many things. Spring water would be OK; but if it's just filtered tap water it could still contain additives like chloramines. Also, distilled, deionized, or RO filtered waters are not good for frogs.

it was "purified" water. I made sure that it wasn't distilled
how were the temps and humidity in your tank? I would definetly take it back to the store though
So sorry to hear about your new frog. :-(
I would doubt that the misting did your poor little guy in. I would guess stress more then anything was a major factor.
The pet store should replace him and I would just ensure the new frogs basic needs are met such as temp, humidity, declorinated water dish, and things to climb, perch, and hide on.
Misting water can be Distilled, Bottled Spring, RO or Declorinated Tap water. Water for the dish should be Declorinated Tap or Bottled Spring was as long as the spring water states it has no chlorides.
I had the humidity around 75, sometimes it jumped up a little bit, but it never went below 65. The temp was around 75 give or take a couple of degrees.
It really doesn't sound like anything you did.. I'm so sorry to hear about your little froggy.. If you get another one I think you should maybe clean out your terrarium just incase he had an infection of some sort.
