I have a vivarium that has extremely wet and saturated dirt. It did not have a drainage layer, but I am about to put one in, in a few days. Will I have to replace the dirt__because of it's major moistness...i heard having 'waterlogged' dirt is not good for plants, etc. It is Eco-Earth.
You can dry the Eco-Earth out some before putting it back in or just put it in a bucket and squeeze out some moisture before putting it on top of your screen material. It will be fine. When you buy a brick of Eco-Earth your completely wet it to have it expand.
If it seems rotted and smalls funny then replace it.
I agree the fastest way to dry it out would be to place it in a bucket then squeeze as much water as possible out of it before placing it back in the tank, but if it smells bad don't return it to the tank its better to just take the loss and pitch the dirt.
