Bare with me here, some of my keys aren't working.
I'm about to set up a 36(h) x 18(d) x 24(w) Tank for 6 milk frogs all Young Juvi size.
I'm stuck on info about these frogs, there needs and what prefrence people have over equipment.
The tank will be all glass with drilled holes for lights ect.
I've been going through my catologue and it seem for everything i think i need there are 100 types, sizes and colours so any help appriciated.
There is alot of mis information, changes in opinion and it basically seems like 90% of the info is by people who have kept these frogs for 2 weeks, written up a report on there vivs and assume they know all (my opinion is not spread to what is found on here)
So i've ordered the tank, the frogs have been paid for but will be kept by the shop until i am ready, i intend of making sure my tank and set up is fully complete and ready for freinds before even thinking about picking them up, even though the store owner assures me keeping them in a plastic shoe box and misting them once a day is fine!!!
So anyway enough of my rambling, i am going for a heavily planted (mostly silk and plastic) tank with what ever extras i feel may benifit them without it looking over the top.
I'm unsure at to what is actually best for the frogs, i can get heatwave bulbs, mats, basking spot bulbs, uvb, daytime/night time heat lamps, infra red, florescent and mercury vapour bulbs.....one site says the frogs will spend too much time under the spot bulbs and cook, another says heat mats serve little purpose in a tank my size, some say you don't need anything just keep the room warm so i'm stuck.
I was also told they need a UV bulb and the heat should be on 24/7
Next up, Foggers and waterfalls, i've seen little evidence anyone uses fogging machine with these guys and i've seen no waterfalls used so are these simply something pretty to look at? or would they actually benefit my frogs?
and then, substrate, again mixed views on whats best, i've been told cork, bark, sphagnum moss, soil and cage carpet are all suitable but i fear this is simply a selling ploy i care little for how the tanks look and will gain greater pleasure in knowing the frogs are happy then it looking nice.
and lastly 'extras' what are the bits no one mentions? i have dechlorinator for water but then there are mite control, calcuim, calcuim D3, antiseptics, wound healers....how much of this will i actually need more than once in my life and how much straight away?
Any help is greatly appriciated and i shall looking forward to seeing any replies.
