I'm looking into getting a new frog, and I would like one thats good for beginners. I would like something that can live in a 10g tank and something that does well eating earthworms, as they are my preference for live food. Any suggestions?
Is 10 long or tall?
Chubby frog might be good. Maybe a whites tree frog..... I have a baby WTF in a 10 long for now
Fire-bellied toads are nice, but not big enough for most earthworms. White's treefrogs are probably the definitive beginner's frog.
Okay, thank you. I'll start looking into their care, although it will most likely be a while before I actually get one.
Green Tree Frogs and banana frogs are really good for beginners
I will dissent from the tree frog partisans. Leopard Frogs. They are hardy, you dont have to go Insane with habitat design to keep them happy, but you can definitely do so if you want, they are the perfect size so finding food is not a problem. The only issue is a tendency to be flighty, but even that settles down if you put them in a spot that gets moderate traffic (a well used study, for example).
I could be biased though. I keep 3 species and over a half dozen individuals.
