    Default Hiya! :)

Well, there's not much to say about me. My name's Becky, I'm going into my second semester of college (pursuing a certificate in American Sign Language) and I've been a frog buff since I was fast enough to catch them. I got my first and current frog way back 2006. He's an Eastern Gray Tree Frog named StickyFeet and I'm surprised he's lasted as long as he has.(Unfortunately, I'm not sure how much long he WILL make it, because he's been battling popeye for the past 9 days or so ) He survived a lot of handling when he was young (because I didn't know any better o///o ), he's moved from Virginia to Minnesota, and had to deal with a fat, mean-girl roommate for a few months.

The mean girl roommate is the late Butterfingers ( a Cope's...I think she was). A friend caught her for me as a girlfriend for Sticky. That...was definitely a hate-hate relationship. I didn't know frogs would bite each other. O_O She was ridiculously fat, even for a girl frog, and was a terrible climber. She always slid down the sides of the tank like she had...well..butterfingers. She passed away in May 2009.

In addition to watching and taking care of frogs, I like to write adventure novels and chase my Cavapoo (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel/Poodle hybrid) around the house. I also draw cartoons sometimes.

I plan on lurking here for awhile yet. I see lots of cute frog pics everywhere.

Welcome aboard. Chances are the eye is infected and needs to be seen by a vet.

Welcome to Frog Forum Becky! Is your frog in any treatment for Popeye? Agree with Kurt and would take frog to Vet for possible internal bacterial eye infection.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

I bathe him in Maracyn daily. Otherwise, no. The closest frog vet is about 200 miles away, I checked last night. >_< Bleh. And of course everyone in the pet stores are like "A...frog? With...popeye? Oh, good luck with that... Here try this bird medicine..."
So..I don't know what to do, really. I can't find any online help, nor do I know what other medicines are safe for tree frogs.(Yeah sure...bird medicine..right...) I'm just kinda stuck. Sticky acts normal though. I'm wondering if it's because of his age he's like this. He's got to be at least 7. He was full grown when I caught him. Guess I'll see if the next step up from Maracyn works after this go around. He's not getting any better, but he's not any worse, Praise God.

    Thanks for the welcomes.
I have a frog. She's fat and green. Her name is Gertrude, because she is fat and green.

Maracyn has at least 3 versions that I know of. Maracyn 1 & 2 work against either gram+ or - bacteria; can use both together if unsure bacteria type.

Also, there is also another product called Maracyn Plus that is a broad scope antibiotic against both gram + & - bacteria. I've had great success using it against fish eye infections and is my favorite fish antibiotic (48 years experience with FW & SW fish). Have no first hand experience with frogs diseases yet and do hope it stays that way.

This article has good information: Frog Forum - Basic Frog First Aid .

If you Google "frog eye infection" will get a bunch of results and appears a drug called "Gentocin;" a sterile buffered aqueous solution with 3mg (0.3%) gentamicin (as sulfate Ph. Eur.) and 0.05mg benzalkonium chloride as preservative appears very successful. Only thing is; need to take frog to Vet to get it.

I could always try another version of Maracyn. I almost bought Maracyn 2 but the clerk said it wasn't stronger and I was looking for a slightly stronger antibiotic.

Yeah and the vet thing isn't do-able for me. The nearest herp vet is too far up the road, in a town I've never even HEARD of.
