Hi There everyone, I have 6 little frogs, a mixture of green and gold and brown tree i think.
Am wanting to set up a new tank for them as my oher one getting a bit small.
I have had problems with plants ive put in dying as the dirt goes rancid, i think, its not beause they are to dry.
Please can anyone give me some suggestion and ideas on how to set it up and wot works the best, my current tank has been set up 4 a year and they seem happy enough, fat and moving round, they have a dip at night and quite often the 6 of them are having a pool party in the small hours.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanx
Hi welcome to the forum.
From what you have said I guess the frogs are all in one tank?
If they are you need to seperate the Green and Golden Bell frogs from the Brown tree frogs as different species shouldn't be housed together. The Green and Golden Bell frogs will be twice the size of Brown tree frogs in another year so will most likely be eaten.
Frogs also secrete toxins even on the smallest of scales which in smaller spaces can be magnified and cause illness in another species of frog.
The size of the Green and Golden Bell frogs will more than likely stress out the Brown Tree frogs which can also lead to illness.
As for the plants remove the soil and put stones in the bottom about an inch thick then place organic soil on top make sure the organic soil has no fertilisers in it.
Great plants to use are ferns if you buy them from the shop wash away all the soil as it will have fertiliser on it then make a hole in the soil in the tank and place the plant in. Pile more soil up around it to completely cover the roots and water the plant.
I do this and it works great.
As for the rancid soil is there a constant water supply to the soil e.g unsealed water area leaking into the soil?
I had this and the soil went rancid.
Also what water do you use?
