hello. can anyone sex my afb? its just over 2.5inches now. cheers

more pics. its 3 inches now.
cheers
Flip him over and look at his throat. If the throat matches the belly, it's a girl. If the throat is another color, it's male. (I like to think of the dark throats as beards. :P)
Typically, you can tell just by flipping him over. But, if you still can't, check out this site :

Looks like a boy to me so far.
You cannot sex these frogs by looking at their throats like the pacmans. Even with pacman frogs you don't see dark coloration under the chin area till frog is close to or at breeding size/age.
thanks for your input. guess ill just have to wait a bit longer. cheers
Looks more like a male than female with the coloring and size of head. Little too early to tell though because of the size...cool frog tho, keep up the feedings.
it turned out female guys. think ill be selling her on as shes the 3rd juvie thats turned out female for me and i have to make space for another 1 now LOL
A week ago was 3 in. and looked like a male... and now it's a female. Curious on how you came to that determination, thank you!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
well i was leaning more towards female at that point anyway because the head seemed smaller from a frontal view than a male my friend had at the same size. but i wasnt sure and you guys gave me hope.
i got her out a few days later and really studied her and looked at alot of pics of my friend's males and i came to the conclusion that she was female.
shes bigger now and her head looks small from the front. ill dig her out for feeding since shes been burriied for a few days and ill take some pics to show you guys. im 99.9% sure shes female.
That isn't always a dead on wit. Pacmans either. The only 2 dead give aways for a male Pacman is when they call (ofcourse) and nuptual pads on the thumbs that usually appear when the frog reaches sexual maturity. You already knew that thoughPyxies usually is head to body ratio correct?
That's what I thought. I've always been able to tell Pyxies by head size. So far that's been the most accurate. Doesn't show til they reach a certain size and age though.
heres the pics. shes 3.25-3.5inches. more closer to 3.5 but i cant measure her properly because she bites. you can tell shes female because of the small head. at this size they are easily sexable so yeah.
in that feeding she had 3 adult male dubia, 1 large nymph and nearly my hand... lol. its crazy how much they can fit in their bodies.
shes a psycho though she reminds me of this frog Frogs with teeth! - YouTube she does the same threat posture with the mouth open to me. im always scared to pick her up. total opposite to my other female whoes in the same enclosure.
sucks though i want a male. a guaranteed male over here is expensive![]()
i tried to get some pics of right in front of her face but theres no way that would happen she keeps trying to attack me lol. her head looks really small when you stare her in the face.
Look,
If you have seen inches of growth within weeks of owning the AFB, Its a good chance that its a male. If it wants to take your finger off every time you go near it, its a good chance that it is a male. Throat color and underside orange is a good indication that its a Male. I have raised well over 40 of these pixies, have 20 or so in my possession at any given time, and at that size it is a complete guess whether its a female or a male.nuptual pads indicate being a male. at 3.5 inches u cannot conclude it is not a male.
And you may be looking at your friends males when they are older. They make a complete COMPLETE transformation when males get bigger and older. The head like triples in size, they develop huge lumps behind their eyes, Orange underside and nuptual pads. You cannot judge a baby pixie by an adult male pixie. just no comparison
the growth spurt its had has only happening recently, she was growing slowly when i got it as a baby. every young male ive seen at 3-4inches i can tell they are heading for male because the heads are big. mine has a small head the pics i uploaded make her head look larger. the head looks smaller in person, really small from a frontal view but i couldnt get pics of that. if you saw her in person you would call female. i just dont see the head doubling in size from 3.5inches to 4 or 4.5inches.
she has some orange round the armpits. i just reckon shes a feisty female tbh im confident that its female
