My tank has been sitting for a few weeks between 61(at lowest) to 71 degrees on average. Sometimes it will reach 75 but only when we kick up the thermostat for the house. It is currently on the floor, so i don't know if it is on a table if that will help.? Any ideas on how i can warm it up? i need it to be between 75-85 degrees in there. Also a question on lighting. I heard that UVB bulbs are good for tree frogs. what watt should i get?
i use a heat mat under my frog tank to raise the humidity and temperature, it works very well. and 60 watt is good for that.
I'll suggest you get it up off the floor first. If you have wood or tile floors, the cold floor will transfer to the bottom of the tank.
You add some heat, try a Under Tank Heat (UTH) Pad on the side of the tank so the heat doesn't have to make its way through the soil.
You can also close up some of the screen with a piece of plexi or glass to remove areas where heat is lost.
Depending on what frogs you have will depend on how much you want to close it up since the less ventilation, the more humidity you will have.
Some frogs need ventilation more than others. Tree Frogs should have some air flow where as Dart Frogs are usually fully closed in enclosures.
Lighting above will add more heat and for night time a red or moon light bulb will help. Lighting burns off humidity so you may have to mist more. Note that some frogs will become less active at night is a light is introduced so you will have to monitor their activity if adding a night light.
