Hi all.
So, I got 5 lucky bamboos for a few of my tanks. I've had them in a vase with water for the last month (haven't put them in the terrariums yet). I notice one of them is turning a yellowish along the entire stem. Is it dying? If so, is there anyway to save it?
How often should I be changing the water?
Thanks.
Two of the most common factors are 1.) too much direct sunlight; and 2.) too salty or heavily-fluoridated tap water. Give your new Lucky Bamboo a thriving start be sure to keep it away from direct sunlight, and water only with filtered or natural spring water.
I've been keeping it away from the window, and out of direct sunlight.
As far as water, I use tap water that I treat with drops. Is that a no no? If I switch to spring water, will it sae the dying bamboo?
Thanks fo the reply.

That happened to mine in the past also and my local florist said it was due to too much fluoride in the water. Dechlorinating drops do not remove the fluoride unfortunately. I also asked if my brita water filter would and she said no.

Yeah, guess I'll use spring water from now on. Hopefully I have better luck with that.
Good luck! I haven't purchased another one yet.

Guess that's why they call it "lucky" bamboo. Your lucky if it lives.
Lol
Mine actually lived a long time before it did that, ha ha!

I hadthe same problem, my lucky bamboo stalks turning yellow...according to someone I met that sells "lucky bamboo", the stalk only lives a few years (3-4) in water. When it turns yellow it is at the end of its life cycle. But if you want it to live longer, plant in the soil and treat it like a regular house plant.
OK, thanks for all the info everybody.![]()
