Worried about my froggie, help?

I had that kit. Its a 50 watt bulb so its fine. The best way to pick up your frog is from behind an after you get under him slowly bring in your other hand to stabilize his so he doesn't jump out of your hands an get hurt. If he didn't puff up and bark/screech at you then he want going to bite you. If they feel threatened they puff up with air to make themselves look larger and then warn the attacker by snapping at them and making a barking sound. They will also scream at the attacker and it is an almost deafening sound. You did well. Did you change out his substrate? He needs new if you didn't because they will become ill if kept in water logged conditions.

Frogs are unpredictable and can leap from your hands in a split second. You must always use caution when handleing them and moving them around. Although their body design if for abssorbing impact they can still become injure seriously if they jump from our hand while we're standing. I hold them low to the ground when I move them around. Kind of makes me look like Igor or Quauzee Moto Lol! Your frog will become used to you handling him but it just takes time. He trusts you enough to feed him but not enough to hold him. Mine have gotten used to it and will actually sit on my hands while they're open. When they're ready to go back home and I pick them up they let me know by pushing their back legs into my hand like they're trying to burrow. Telling me "I want back in my dirt." They get used to us it just takes time.

I woke up this morning and he is all inflated again! I hope it is just more poop and I'm going to try soaking him a bit more.

I was afraid to pick him up because he did puff himself with air so I knew he felt threatened. I hope he doesn't bite me and knows I am just trying to help him go potty.

I am going to change his substrate today. Unfortunately, I was not home yesterday to do it, and then with freaking him out late last night I didn't want to bug him more. :/

No problem. He is probably full of water from the substrate being too wet. He'll be fine. You don't have to use honey in the soak everytime. You just use it when they're constipated. When you change his substrate he should be back to normal. It isn't unusual to see them full of water like that. They aso puff up from time to time without feeling threatened.

they also puff up very large when they shed. It is normal, but a bit startling the first time you see it.

No problem, and no it isn't weird to want to see them shed. Their brightest colors come through when they shed. Be sure his substrated stays damp and moist now. Also every week once a week you can toss the substrate and what I mean by toss is mix it up by bringing the bottom soil to the top and stir it around to help keep it damp you can mist it as you toos it. Don't over do it ofcourse. So you don't freak him out you can remove him while you do it. Remember where his hole was so that after you toss the substrate you can remake his hole and he'll use it like its the one he made.

It is also very important that you completely change the substrate and thoroughly clean his enclosure no less than once a month. This must be done in order to keep him from becoming ill by being in toxic conditions due to him urinating in the soil during the month and the amonia in their urine will build up. Since they absorb water through their skin he will also soak up the amonia and become sick.

i dont want to hack this thread but i just have a couple questions concerning the substrate being too wet and the pacman bloating. my substrate doesnt seem that wet but my frog is a little inflated but he still eats and act normal. so the real question is how wet or damp should the substrate be and what should it look like? and ive never seen my pacman gone to the bathroom once or twice and i was there both times but idk how to tell if my frog has gone to the bathroom when im awhile

They inflate them selves with air for many reasons. They will appear bloated when inflated or well hydrated. If they have to poop and you want to be sure whether your frog needs to or not here is what you do.

Wash your hands thoroughly with a mild cleanser. Dry them completely then rinse them with the de-chlorinated water you use for your frog. Leave them wet so the frogs skin isn't irritated. Take your finger and feel his right side gently. If it feels firm ar hard then he needs to poop. They don't always need help to do so, but if your worried you can soak him in the De-chlorinated water/honey solution stated above. Make sure its luke warm.
