They co-exist in a vast forest... not in a 20-40 gallon tank and in a tiny pool of water. Your tree frog is going to get eaten or sick. I can assure you that. Seperate them as in this instant the fish and wildlife guy is wrong.

Toads are voracious, even if they can't fit him in their mouths yet. All it takes is one leg caught in a toad's mouth and that tree frog is either maimned or dead from infection or physical trama.

Cuban tree frogs also secrete a toxin mucus from their skin that causes a strong burning reaction, which once gets in the water source can cause those toads stress which can help make them sick or kill them outright.

Not to mention toads are toxic and tree frogs as well. They will make each other sick from the toxins they secrete. Perhaps this wild life guy is no expert. I myself am no expert but this is common sence when it comes to amphibians.

I too am so confused. They fined you for? Both animals are not on any sort of banned list for your state and for you separating them they fined you for what?

Your attention to provide appropriate care and safe housing for both animals should not even be questioned. The lack of knowledge by the authority whom wrongfully directed the incorrect housing, or, the poorly written regulation which required an unhealthy combination of species would be the only wrong doer here.

I'm still not getting it. You are fined because the zoo are not following the regulations? Or are the regulations based on pure gibberish, stating that different amphibians should be housed together?

I understand that, but ignorance on the regulations part does not justify fining someone due to an incorrect or poorly written regulation.

Maybe a better solution on the state and zoo's part would be to have you assist in the correction of the regulation. This would be more beneficial to the zoo and it's wildlife, having a corrected regulation that requires the research of proper housing needs for each animal prior to creating a multi-species enclosure.

He's saying that the zoos regulations are outdated and wrong and the fined him for tampering with zoo property. They had to reduce the charge because they had to admit they were wrong. Also because even though he did the right thing it still violated their regulations. Basically they just wanted to get some money out of it anyway so they fined him $100.00. Its still a loud of ****. I think they need to do some research on here. They might learn something.

yah ther secound one they have houseing regulations for certent animals like frogs and toads which will require them to be housed togeather
when i removed the cuban tree frog from the tank i broke a regulation and was fined for it till i sent then the post vea email and had my fine reduced to 100.00 for not cooperating with a fwc offical

i think its better that they be seperated anyway but they were becase of regualtions
