    Default Epoxy Door Hinge Failure

My new 40 vertical suffered a failure today when the door hinge epoxy let go and it fell off while I was opening it. I used fresh epoxy glue, sanded both the hinge and plastic frame of the tank for a better grip prior to applying the epoxy. I'm looking for suggestions on how to reapply the door hinge to the tank. Is there a specific epoxy type I should be using.

I have another 40 vertical where I used a kit from AAA Frogs and that has worked just fine. The new setup is home built and follows along the same build as the one from AAA Frogs.

Okay, well you can purchase a cheap plastic welder for around 15-30$. All you have to do is apply a short bead of hot plastic to the plastic hinge and the plastic rim of the tank.

I use a plastic welder to fix cracks in old amphibious atv tubs, and it holds for that application, so it will have no problem on a vivarium! If your worried about there size, the cheap ones are relitivlely small, around the size of a hot glue gun, and work off of the same principal.

If you buy one, try drawing a few practice beads with it on some old plactic (a juice container works good).

    Here's a link to Ebay:http://www.ebay.ca/itm/NEW-PLASTIC-w...item5d31975343

You could also try this stuff, looks like it would hold! http://plastex.net/index.php?pr=Home_Page

Duramix is a 2 part adhesive that works awesome. You can get it or something like it at any auto parts store.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Sorry I did not get back sooner. Each one of these options looks good. I do have gorilla glue on hand. I'll think about that. I'm very intrigued by the plastic welder but not sure exactly how that works. Is the Duramix a permanent adhesive?

If both hinge and tank are acrylic based plastics, would suggest trying Weld-On 40. It's made to produce high strength bonds and is used in building large aquariums.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

    Carlos,

Just the hinge is acrylic. The frame is that standard black plastic frame material of fish tanks.

I found this product at the auto store. Permapoxy Plastic Weld. Was not as easy to use as the epoxy I had before and the application was not as neat as before but will see if it holds up. I had to reinstall the door while the unit was in place so that didn't help with keeping things neater!
