Default Hello All, from Basingstoke, Hampshire in the UK

    Hi All,

My name is Helen & I have just bought my first 2 frogs, Amazon Milk Tree Frogs, very excited, They're names are Frodo & Sam. I have an Exo Terra set up. Slightly concerned though, as it is rather cold in the UK at the mo, and I am having trouble getting the temperature up.

I have a heat pad on the side wall, and a heat light on for part of the day, and the temp is only at 22degrees. Can anyone advise what else I can do.

Also do they take a few days to settle down ? I bought them yesterday and they have not eaten the food I put in their last night.

Welcome to the forum. Don't be alarmed that they have not eaten yet. They will need some time to settle into their new homes. Give them a few days and things should be fine. Don't hesitate to ask any further questions and there is a great deal of knowledge here on the forum.

Welcome aboard. If I understand Celsius correctly 22 isn't bad.

Welcome to Frog Forum Helen! I'm new to frogs and do not know your species daytime temp. requirement. Your stated temp is 71.6F and if too cold and the light fixture can take a higher wattage bulb; that would be a solution. Adding a dimmer (if fixture don't have one) will allow for controlling the heat gradient for nights and when house is warmer. A red bulb or ceramic type heater will allow you to run it 24 hours a day.

I do not use heat pads because they are inefficient on the tanks side and if underneath; go against the frog's natural behaviors to bury looking to cool down when hot.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

    Hi Thank you

I am going to the shop again on Saturday and will buy a 50w infra red heat bulb with a thermostat, the light is already on a timer, so it is only on during the day, can I leave it on day & night then ?

Thank you all for your warm welcomes and advice, its is a relief and nice
