ID Ornate from other Pacman frogs
Are false eyespots in the back of Pacman eyes a true identifier of Ornates? Also, do brown colors turn more reddish as Ornate mature?
Asking because an experienced keeper stated those statements to me at local pet shop yesterday. Just trying to learn, thank you!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog

The eye spots are a pretty good indicater. Cranwellis don't have them. Color wise I believe the brown turns somewhat of a rusty color sortof red but not quite. Red Ornates or High Reds usually have very apparent red coloring that stays even as they mature. Look at photos of El Noob's ornate named Redd.

The false eye spots are an Ornate indicator. The browns tend to turn a rust color, not a true red. They mature to a larger size than the cranwelli. They are also, in my opinion......sit lower, you know, a lower profile. They are also "rounder" than the other Horned Frogs in stature.......to me, they are Pancakes of Doom!

A dark spot in rear of horn (facing frog's back end) where eyes are located. Probably serves to confuse prey and enemies about which way is frog facing.

Have you got any pictures of it? I can seem to see what you're talking about from google!
