They aren't exsposed to much in the wild since they hide during the day. They do benefit from about 4 to 6 hours of full spectru light and UVB. UVB doesn't harm their eyes it stimulates the natural production of vitamin D3 in their body which is why the benefit from being exposed to it for limited hours during the day as well as UVA. You aren't damned if you do or don't. Info on what lights are best to use is sparse and contradictory unless you as people who use lights that I use and have no issues. I use UVA heat bulbs that are 50 watts and have no problems. They aren't too bright and don't harm their eyes. If they were recieveing eye damage from them it would have shown by now. Don't panic. You haven't had any issues yet have you?
Well, I plan on using the 6500K light for salamanders, but they stay hidden during the day so it shouldn't matter for them. It'll just keep the moss and plants growing good

But, I generally have heavily planted vivs for my frogs or I provide them with many spaces to hide. I haven't had any issues, but certainly don't want to! I like the idea of these low watt, blue incandescents, but they don't stimulate plant growth, which will not work in a planted viv!

Is it because the wattage is too low? I had and incandescent daylight blue that stimulated plant growth. That's weird that those don't. That's what full spectrum light is for.

Well, the blue incandescent I had didn't stimulate plant growth, and at the time, I didn't know you could get them in full sprectum light...

I'm wondering if the low watt, blue incandescents that do provide a full colour sprectrum will give off much heat? Either way, looks like I should replace my 6500K's with these...? I'll just keep the 6500K's for my red backed salamanders because they do not tolerate heat of any kind, they like it cool (60-70F).

I really appreciate all the info! (You should post your name, so people arn;t calling you by frog frogs name! )

EDIT: Every incandescent blue or black (I've been always interested in a black for occasional night viewing) I look up is 15watt or more, and is listed as a "heat lamp". Mind you, I guess a 15 watt incandescent wouldn't burn THAT much more energy than an 11 watt CFL.

The bulb I believe was made by Zilla. It came in a terrarium kit I purchased. Its a 10 gallon tank kit for tropical reptiles and amphibians. You can find it at petsmart and I think even petco carries it. About my name its just going to have to be one of lifes great mysteries Lol! ill just say that its a team effort that goes into the posts from this alias.

This may be a stupid question... I've seen like, cans, of freeze dried crickets. Do/Can Pac Mans eat those?

Yes but they aren't very good unless you're going to crush them up and make a food source somwhat like the Pacman food made by Samurai Japan. Plus if your frog won't eat from forcepts you're not going to get much of a feeding responce for dead dried motionless crickets. Id stick with live ones. Unless you plan on making something like the Pacman Food. Not a stupid question by the way. Both yes and no is to be assumed easily.
