Default Merry Christmas to me! ;) 12/1/11

So, remember that cute little fantasy frog I wanted so badly? The one I keep going to see at the mall here? He is now my new baby !

The hubby finally not only agreed to letting me get him, (without an argument), but he bought him for me for Christmas ! (Which is good bc I was going to get him soon anyhow, hee hee . ) Yay!!!

He is 2" big. Can anyone tell his gender by any chance?

Poor little stinker was housed in rocks. Shocker? Anyway, I made him a new home last night. He ate one large cricket, went exploring, soaked and then burrowed behind his new fern .

He's not shy, so far . Just have to be careful bc he's a bit of a biter. Tried to get me once when I put his crickets in. I'm not sure if I startled him or if it was bc it was feeding time. Luckily he didn't catch me.

I am hoping someone can help tell me his gender so I can pick out a name. Any cute name ideas?

I love his cute little horns !

I took lots of pictures yesterday. Now I will let him rest and enjoy getting used to his new home.
He looks so much more comfortable in the soft substrate .

And there he is in his nice new home . I hope he likes it.

    Welcome home little buddy
(Please pardon the temp readings as I had just turned on his UTH heat pads and overhead lamp just after these pictures. It is now 82' . )

    Congrats Heather!!!

    He's sooo cute!

I'm sure he's definitely more comfy on that nice soft coco-fibre than he was on those rocks! What idiot would keep a frog on rocks!?

He looks happy in his new home! So much more space, the right substrate, a large soaking bowl, he's got it made now!

    Once again, congrats!!!

Nice.............you can always go with a name that fits male or female. You could go Native American and call em' Onewhodrawsblood. You did say it was a biter.

    Congratulations on your new frog!

Fantasy frogs are seen as "Mules".....no one has bred them because it's thought that since they are a product of cross breeding, they are like the mule and infertile. The differences between the sexes should be similar to those of the other species.......Nuptual Pads on the front feet thumbs. But since they don't breed, not sure if that is true.

Would love to know for sure myself! Hope someone with more experience & knowledge comes along and has answers!

I knew he/she would find his/her way home with you somehow. I would assume like Jessica said that the way to tell gender would be the same. I also think that just because they are infertile doesn't mean that they wouldn't try to breed and show nuptual pad on males. I guess they would just fire blanks so to speak. Congrtulations!

    Thanks everyone!

Well, I tried to see if he has nuptial pads. I'm not very good at telling. Tanks's are very easy to see.

Infertile is okay since I won't be breeding mine. The ornate there was so cute too. I just couldn't resist this little guys cute face and pronounced horns .

    Ha ha..."blanks"! (Chuckling!)

Cute name choices . Thanks! When he comes out to eat this evening I'll see if he looks like any of them. I've been trying to think of something that is unique and that fits him well. Too bad there's no such thing a an amphibian names book .

Hopefully I won't get nipped at tonight . I think I'll drop the crickets in the other side of his home, ha ha! Maybe a good Indian name WOULD suit him, lol! With that cute little face you'd never guess he's a chomper. He looks so sweet and innocent. Maybe bc the guy at the pet store was hand feeding him pinkies every now and then.

He's still snuggled in his corner under his fern with just his cute little horned eyes peeking out. Adorable!

I love seeing all of yours too . Its fun to see everyones' frog and toad pictures and their homes.

    Thanks!!!

Congrats on your Fantasy, love the color patterns on it's back. Don't know much about them but have been keeping Kamfas and other hybrid cichlid fish for years. Those that are infertile have reproductive organs and will try to breed by going trough motions of fertilizing eggs, etc. Maybe frogs are no different and have nuptial pads (males), reproductive organs, etc.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

Better get the tongs with the soft rubber tips so Chomp doesn't get hurt.

Good idea...baby's got bad aim. Bites at anything that moves. It's so funny how something so small and cute can eat so aggressively.
