Wow, that's some serious swelling. The surgery to fix it will be pretty invasive, and probably very expensive.
I'll have to find a way to put it to sleep, or try to hold out until Friday. Those are my choices. I don't have $500 to hand them at one time. So, yeah......... I feel horrible, but I am trying to think of anything else I can do. I feel bad because the frog has been suffering, and I tried to wrap some gauze around the frog and leg to try to give the leg some support. But the only thing is, the accident happened Thanksgiving night. I think it may be too late to even try to fix the leg. So either I find a way to put it to sleep, or wait until Friday like I said. I'm really torn, I just don't want to have to put him to sleep just because of a broken leg. But it may be too late to even try to help him. Any advice???
Most aquarium stores will either sell MS-222 (aka tricaine) or clove oil, just put in 3-10 times the normal dose, and it should result in euthanasia in a humane way (simply going to sleep & never waking up).
I have clove oil. Used it to put my daughter's Beta to sleep. Thanks to the cat knocking off the tank and trying to rip the fish in half. But I'm just really torn as to wait, or go ahead and put it to sleep. It may be too late to try to get him help.
Oh Tori,
I'm so sorry.
When a pet is sick they need us to make decisions for them.
Our hearts tell one thing and our minds tell us another.
It's so hard. Sorry
How about a much smaller enclosure? So he can not climb.
Then, his leg won't hang.

The frog is already in a smaller enclosure. It's in the smallest critter keeper they make. It's turned on it's side so he can't climb that high. But I still feel so horrible in this decision making.
This is my options....
A) Wait until Friday and see what the vet says...
OR
B) Go ahead and put the frog to sleep...
The incident happened Thursday(Thanksgiving night). I think it may be too late to even try to fix. And where the leg is broken, I don't even know if it can be fixed. Think of the frogs rear end. The leg is broke right at the hip joint. I think there is more damage than a broken bone. Even though there isn't any physical wounds besides the broken bone, but I think some veins and nerves may be severed. At this point, I'm kind of leaning more towards putting it to sleep because if they can fix it, it will stress the frog even more to have his back leg mending and hurting. That also means more of a down time, and he can't hunt as is. He hasn't eaten since the night it happened. I just think it may be smarter to go ahead and end the suffering now, and put him to sleep than to make him suffer even longer. Does any one agree/disagree?
