Mostly, to protect your other frogs, as well as your new one.

I have quarantined my new red eyes ( each ) for at least 8 weeks.
I recently kept one ( an albino red eyed tree frog) in quarantine longer because he was small compared to the others he would be with.

If your new frog is on the smaller size, quarantine will also help monitor how much the frog is eating.

This is probably the most important thing you can do for your new frog, even if the new frog looks perfect!
Remember -A nice long quarantine will help all of them..

Keep the enclosure simple . A little 10 gallon enclosure will be just fine.

I'm sure there will be other responses.

Thanks for your response Lynn!

I was going to keep it in a 2 gallon (I thought it would only have to be in there for a week or two) but seeing as how I have to keep in quarantine for 30-60 days, I'll have to buy another 10 gallon!

The reason we do this is..even though the frog may look perfectly fine the stress from going from a petstore or being shipped somtimes causes health issues to develop. If that happens the single frog can be treated or cared for in a simple environment. If he is in with other frogs and they become sick then you are treating a bunch of frogs. Look through the archives of people introducing a new frog only to infect the others a week or so later. Its better to be safe than sorry. Make sure he is eating and everthing looks good for a while then introduce him to his final home.
Cheri!!!!!! Are you feeling better!!?? First of all, which do you recommend, 30 or 60 days? I agree with the better be safe than sorry rule in many situations, considering that I would really rather look after 1 sick frog, than a group of sick frogs!

Thanks for all the info Cheri & Lynn!

P.S. Soooo glad to have you back Cheri!
