Default Have been made quite an offer!!!

I was contacted by a local, privately owned pet store about selling wholesale.

I was originally downsizing my stock numbers to take a break from breeding, and I have been made an offer to be a sole supplier to the store. They are looking to get into more of an amphibian and reptilian selection and want to source local breeders. They also want me to set up a larger tank in their shop as a display tank for adults.

Guess I am going to be busy. It is going to take a couple months before I have froglets big enough for selling, and in the mean time they are changing around a portion of the store....but until then....WOO HOO!

Nice! What store if you don't mind me asking? I'll be sure to stop by, if I haven't already!

    I messaged you the name.

It will probably be January/February by the time we get things started but it should be fun! In the mean time I am getting set up again for breeding.

If anything, it is a new experience!

    Thank you.

I am going to start off with a reticulated albino female -her patterning is gorgeous and I am debating whether to breed her with an albino, reticulated albino or piebald male. I have no natural males who can breed with her - the only two I have are her father and brother!

My piebald is a bit....slow...he is almost 2 years old and I have yet to see him amplex. I have her in a 30 gallon tank with the piebald and an albino male - let's see who charms the lady first!

Well...while waiting for my frogs to breed - quess who did??? No, it wasn't me! It was my axolotls!!! The female and male were added into the tank together for the first time THREE DAYS AGO - and today she laid eggs! For those who are unfamiliar with axolotls...they don't mate like other amphibians. The males lays piles of sperm around the tank, and the female walks over them, picks them up, fertilizers her eggs, and then lays them.

I had originally missed the spermatores but trust me, I see them now!

I separated out 10 eggs for my first attempt at raising them. In 2-4 weeks hopefully some of them will hatch.

So...looks like I might be raising lots of babies! Now my frogs better get to work! The teenager axolotls are putting the veteran frogs to shame!

You might want to separate more than ten eggs to raise, twenty would require no more effort and you get a bigger pay when you sell them to the shops plus you have the advantage of making selections of axolotls you want to keep from a larger pool.

Considering axolotl offspring have to be raised individually due to cannibalistic tendencies, 10 is the most I could accommodate to the comfort of the axolotls. I figured I would try my hands at a manageable amount and if successful I will build a suitable shelf to hold enough containers to raise more.

Congrats on your business offer and good luck breeding your stock. Was in RI back in 1983 for USN OCS training; not much free time but did some sightseeing and it's a beautiful place during Spring.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

Not true, you can raise batches of axolotls in the same tank, as long as you provide a constant source of food and plenty of hides, they arnt cannabalistic for the first month as they are pretty much the same size. As they develop their back legs ,start to seperate by size and reduce stocking density per axolotl, as long as they are about the same size and they are not overcrowded they should be ok, Watch out for the odd missing limb which will happen lol , take these steps and cannabalism will not be that common.

Ok well I was just going by what I have read and what I had been advised. I had discarded the eggs before I even posted about keeping 10 so it is a too late to keep more. I will try my hand at these and gain experience for the next batch.
