My frog is scratching its sides with it's back feet like a dog and it's face with it's front. It is also displaying extreme "yawing" like it does after eating but opening it's mouth much wider. Does this sound like shedding or is this abnormal?

pretty sure its shedding, a week ago my firebellys were doing that and my family though it was sick and trying to puke since it just ate a cricket! once i showed them it scratching his face like a dog they understood that it was shedding. your lucky you got to see that i barely ever see my frogs shedding and last week was the very first time i ever seen it!

Yep definetly shedding. If your frog is scratching at itself kind of franticly then he/she is having a bad shed. Usually it happens when humidity isn't high enough or the substrate isn't moist enough. Normal shedding they peel it all off in one piece into their mouth without issue. Kind of like they're pulling a sweater over their head. If he/she keeps scratching franticly at the face or back you may have to set him/her in his/her water dish and sprinkle some water on your frogs back and or face. Which ever spot is irritating him/her. The funniest part of their shedding is when they rub their legs together like they're trying to start a fire Lol!
