My three month old western toad (about 1 1/2 inches) can't "chirp" yet, but it makes very quiet clicking sounds. I can only hear it when I'm within a few feet of the toad. The clicks can be in rapid succession or varying time intervals apart. Only one of my two toads does it. Is that possibly an early signification that it's a male...?

Awesome!!! Maybe we've made a huge discovery regarding sexing toads in the early life....
Absolutely!! because actually the topic of telling apart males from females in the amphibian world is quite popular... especially when it's not obvious in maturity or mating seasons
Wonder if similar behavior occurs with some other species of amphibians, rather than just toads?
possibly... someone should get a bunch of young frogs and just listen quietly.... I haven't read anything about it though, and I've done a lot of research on almost all toads and a decent amount of frog species... I feel like we're on the verge of a breakthrough!
I know!! except most people aren't as interesting in amphibious creatures as us.... but it'd still be awesome!!! and people wouldn't wonder about the gender of their pet as much
Have we discovered a fact, or just created a theory...?
Autumn, yes you could!!! Or, we could all start a movement on the forum investigating this theory..... Know any breeders that have a bunch of young frogs?
Woodies will work great I'm sure you could do something like listen for "clicks" (or any other noise) and separate clickers from non-clickers, Autumn! I don't know anyone with froglets, myself, but I will certainly keep an eye (or ear) on mine! If the one that clicks turns out to be a male, that'll be so cool!!
Totally....and when observations aren't possible, I can just whip out my sound sensor recorder! Yes, that would be cool!!

This is awesome! What'd ya say we all collaborate on making a thread introducing our idea to the community and gather any supporters??
