Oh, I got it roughly 2.5 months ago from reptile expo. It was the size of a canadian looney. He/she has exploded in size. I feed it a lot of nightcrawlers dusted with calcium, and lot of pinkies( I know ppk say they should be a treat. But I watch it carefully for movability and such and he/she is by no means over weight. A very healthy frog. Tank is all done right, temp, humidity, substrate are all correct. But like I said he/she is growing insanley fast . And randomly croaks like 4 times per session.

Females don't croak. Males make a very loud almost deafening call or croak. When they become of age which I mean breeding age they are anywhere from 8 months to a year old. When a male reaches full maturity there will be nuptial pads on the thumbs of each front foot of your frog. They look like a black spot or kind of like a mole. Females are usually quiet. They make a grunt sound and a clicking or popping noise which is not very loud and a lot of the time you have to be really really close to hear it.

Pinkies can cause kidney failure among other ailments which all are very bad and can cause death. Over buildup of fat can also cause blindness. Once a month is the most you should feed your frog mice. No more than that.

Have you seen this first hand? My brother and 3 friends have been doing the same diet for the last 5 years with none of the above. I will certainly take your words into consideration for I love my frog nd wantr him to live as long as possible and be healthy

@Dek No disrespect to your brother and 3 friends, but the frog will have some organ failure later on in his life. All things to be considered is it's a slow process until one of the above symptoms displays. It could be 1-7 years before the frog would end up dying from this type of diet. As the kidney & liver break down proteins, the mammalian-fat tissue from the vertebrate slows the process down blocking the digestive enzymes from doing their job. That's why it's not good for us humans to eat a lot of red meat as a regular diet.

Frogs display abnormal behavior, obesity, complications, and completely stop eating when complications arise. Listen to their advice and only feed vertebrates once a month maximum. Vertebrates (with a backbone) would rarely come across these frogs diets in the wild if not any at all for the first couple of years of their life. Their diet mostly consists of invertebrates (without a backbone) that provides enough nutritional value and can be broken down as a regular staple diet for these frogs. Hope I helped.

I would of leaned more towards female but if you heard it croaking than it's a male.
