Pupil dilation in frog

I didn't know if he was sleeping or not because I heard that they sleep with their eyes closed.

Some frogs close their eyes to sleep - African Bullfrogs for example. Some don't - I've noticed my Gray Tree Frogs and Horned/Pacman Frogs don't close their eyes to sleep, they just shrink their pupils.
