I've been checking out the 3-4 Pixie frogs that the local exotic pet store has and was wondering if they got real big or if they got just a bit bigger than a Pacman frog does. They look right cute and interesting (the ones at the store have white/light green stripes on their backs, very pretty).
Similar in size, but the Pyxie frogs will take the cake. Males can get up to 10-12 inches! This isn't common but does happen. You shouldn't need more then a 20-40 gallon tank to accommodate a male.
what petstore are you talking about im from Virginia to

Second largest frogs in the world right underneath the Rana Goliath so you tell me if they are big or not. Depends which pacman you are talking about - female ornates can reach 8-9".
CapoJames has a male ornate that's about a 8" I believe. Female pixies average out about the same size as a full grown cranwelli, just more body mass. Male pixies will definitely surpass the pacman species with the exception of a few female ornates that reach relatively the same size.
You'll find pixies to be a lot more voracious with food, something to think about before purchasing one. You'll be surprised at the quantities of food they can consume on a regular basis.
Picture might help. Could be a dwarf pyxie you are looking at. there colors are much more unique, and they don't grow as large.
Pyxies are a very unique frog!

sublime, where have you seen an ornate at 8-9 inches? they dont get larger than 6" and if it does it wont be much more. and cranwelli are even smaller. anything that comes close to a pixie would be a c. aurita (brazilian horn frog). but those arent being import.
i stand corrected. apparently there are some c. aurita in the US, available to private breeders/dealers, just not to the general public.
I've seen a few female ornates peaking at 8-9" svl (one at a show and another on here). Thanks for catching me on that though; generally they would reach 5-7" maxed, but genetics and great husbandry can lead to larger. Actually, the c. aurita was rumored (myths because little is known about them) to be a huge pacman in the wild, but it turns out that their documented growth is around the same size as an adult cranwelli. I know of a source who used to breed a couple of adult pairs by the name of Philippe Vosjoli a few years back.
