    Default Retaining Humidity

What are your methods for maintaining humidity? I use a heat lamp and it dries things out quite quickly.

Moist soil and partially covering the top with glass or plexi are the main things that some ti mind. You can also place the supplied water dish under the heat lamp.

You just need to monitor heat/temps when you make the changes since covering the top will help retain humidity, but also cause temps to rise.

We never use lights to heat with any of our frogs. We check substrate & enclosures on a daily basis, especially during weather/season changes. Most of our juvies & froglets are in deli cups so we have great control over the humidity there. Adults are kept in "Racks" ie plastic tubs with a water source that is monitored constantly and kept clean.
We live in South East Texas along the Coast, so humidity here is pretty good when we aren't in the middle of a drought like we happen to be now....ppppfffttttt!!!
We learned what works by trial & error.......good luck!

a general rule for humidity is the more surface space of water the better it will evaporate into humidity. The way your describing is kinda like a incubator, when i incubate eggs I use a heat source and a large shallow dish for the humidity needed. I have to agree that covering the top with glass or plexi is the best route and again i agree you have to be careful of heat with frogs, unless its necessary I wouldn't use it. Hope that helps

I use a 60 watt daylight lamp placed over the water dish to help promote some evaporation leaving moisture into the air. Also I use a face cloth and cover half of the screen lid with it; prior to laying it down on top I spray it down so it's moist-wet. Other than that I spray my frogs soil occasionally throughout the day including the sides and the humidity is always in the 60-80% area.

The glass or plexiglass would probably work better than a face cloth that was mentioned by Don. I just need to get some glass or plexiglass cut to fit the top. Do you have the AC on during the day in your house? That will draw moisture out of the air and leave cool air - low humidity.
