yes there nearly 20 years old he got them as adults and he has had them 15 years he actually said they could be a bit older, but what ever age they are they seem happy, ive been making some real nice gormet sausages for the frogs and toads lately, when i wormed my toads i used the sausage method
cheers spencer...........
I like this article a lot and the fact that you claim that his frogs are well into their 20s is extraordinary. He's obviously doing it right - previously mentioned by Jimi. Makes me want to take a separate approach to a more efficient diet rather than having to hassle with live feeders until my dubia colony is built up.
The only thing that concerns me is since casings come from the gut of cows or pigs (Not sure), would the casings contain any additives (Hormones, preservatives) that were left as a residue on the casings or a simple wash would clear it up? Just want to make sure before I take into consideration that I know it's at my own discretion, but this diet seems a lot cheaper, hassle-free, and you can formulate any nutritionally rich blend you want.
Makes me wonder if this guys method of feeding his frogs and toads is similar to that story at the Manchester Zoo of that pacman that is 35 years old. He doesn't use a 'normal' diet compared to the rest of the frog hobbyists. We are relying on him to be a credible source, but if this is in fact clearly tested and all true then this is probably one of the best finds I've seen in awhile.
Thank you very much spencer! By the way, I can't really tell from the angle he measured his male pixie - is it 9" svl?
i dont think its down to the sausages that his bullfrogs are as old as they are, he has been doing the sausage method for about 3 years but his toads look really healthy, he also feeds insects but what his exact feeding regime is i dont no, when i asked how old and what size his bullfrogs were he told me there age and he said he thought the two males were about 9/10 inch, he is not bothered about there size he just likes the fact that there healthy, like mentioned i dont think it's the be all and end all of feeding big phibs but it is certainly different, as for the skins being safe we get ours of a butcher who makes all the different sorts of sausages and i just give them a good rinse, and if you want to give your phib something substantial but healthy then the posibilitys are endless as far as ingredients go,
cheers spencer.............
dang those cane toads look mean!!
Also this is proof that Wild Caught African Giants are healthier and look better than the Frog Ranch Pixies.
