    Question American bullfrog help?

I am totally new to this forum and i have some questions about some bullfrogs i just got. I'm housing them in an 18G Rubbermaid storage container. Will a 50-55G tank be enough space for them? right now their diet is just crickets, should i provide a more varied diet? how should i set up their tank?, and what plants (if needed) would be safe for them? Thanks for any replies.

    first, welcome to the forum!!

to answer your question i need to know a few things...

    - how many bullfrogs?
    - about how big are they?
    - and are they wild caught or were they bought at a store? (this will help determining what things to feed them)

    - 50 gallon tank is perfect for them
    - food: large crickets, the ocasional pinkie
    - in the wild they would eat crickets, mice, small birds, bats, and other frogs

    - as for the plants that is not my expertice but there are other people in the forum who could help you with that.

    Good luck!

In my bullfrog tank (55g) I have one froglet 2 1/2" and 2 tads and it is 50/50 land and water. I used wild grasses and some creeping ground cover that I have next to the trout ponds at my work. I feed mine crickets and have fathead(feeder fish) in the water, which he/she likes to chase. hope that helps

In my tank I used the false bottom method with a piece of cork to separate the two sides. I have bio balls and grave under the land. In the water I used sand, go buy play sand (100% silica sand) from your hardwear store its way cheaper $5-10 for 50 lbs. just make sure you rinse it good to get ride of any dust. My water is about 7-8" with some ferns and small swords in it. I also recomend some sort of filter because with them going back and forth from land to water the water gets dirty. I have a waterfall with one built in so it looks good and stays clean. I have to say your gonna run into the same problem I will eventually- there gonna get to big for all 3 to fit in one 55g tank. Agian I hope this helps

They do get huge, I caught one that was a little over 8 inches long. I could not belive it was a bullfrog it seemed like it should have been a golith frog (but it had all the markings of a bullfrog (and the same call), in the same pond were tads that were 7 inches.... The monster broke my net...
but don't worry yours should not end up being like that monster

I have seen a bullfrog here in ohio growing up that was 10 inches atleast and it had to be an old frog. It always stayed at the same place. There is a creek with a small dam and he stayed on the deep side of the dam. Very large frog. Sadly I havnt seen one that size ever again. Who knows he could still be king of that creek Lol! I do believe that they live for quite a while with proper conditions. Wouldn't be surprised if. Someone on here has. American Bull Frogs this size in captivity. Would be nice to see.
