Thanks for the help!
In my bullfrog tank (55g) I have one froglet 2 1/2" and 2 tads and it is 50/50 land and water. I used wild grasses and some creeping ground cover that I have next to the trout ponds at my work. I feed mine crickets and have fathead(feeder fish) in the water, which he/she likes to chase. hope that helps
If i did a half water half land setup, what would i use for the substrate under the water? how deep does the water need to be?
In my tank I used the false bottom method with a piece of cork to separate the two sides. I have bio balls and grave under the land. In the water I used sand, go buy play sand (100% silica sand) from your hardwear store its way cheaper $5-10 for 50 lbs. just make sure you rinse it good to get ride of any dust. My water is about 7-8" with some ferns and small swords in it. I also recomend some sort of filter because with them going back and forth from land to water the water gets dirty. I have a waterfall with one built in so it looks good and stays clean. I have to say your gonna run into the same problem I will eventually- there gonna get to big for all 3 to fit in one 55g tank. Agian I hope this helps
Once they reach adult size, how big of a tank will i need?
When I was a kid I housed one in a 55 and i remeber thinking he needed more room, but he seemed happy but I was like 6 or 7 so... They get big for sure
They do get huge, I caught one that was a little over 8 inches long. I could not belive it was a bullfrog it seemed like it should have been a golith frog (but it had all the markings of a bullfrog (and the same call), in the same pond were tads that were 7 inches.... The monster broke my net...
but don't worry yours should not end up being like that monster
