    Default clear film in water

Recently I have seen a clear filmy slime or something in my pace water dish. Is this just shed or something else? How do you know when ur frog is shredding. He is eating great, acting normal and makes lots of noise.

I have seen this in my frog's bowl before. I think it just comes off their skin? Always a good idea to clean the bowl and change the water when you see this.

Yeah it's pretty much dead skin, my pacman does pretty much every time he jumps in his bowl, its kind of clear and floats almost like slime, I've never thought of it but nothing more than dead skin since it's somewhat in that shape lol

Yes probably shed skin, but normally they shed outside the water dish. I'm actually surprised that you've never seen your Pac shed. You may have and just haven't realized it. Usually for what seems like no apparent reason your Pac will puff itself full of air. In doing so it is loosening and stretching the old skin to prepare it for being peeled off twards the mouth and they eat it. Waste not want not Lol! They start from the rear and use their hind legs to pull the skin forward. Once it reaches the head they pull it over the head like it were a shirt or sweater with their front legs and push the skin into their mouth to be swallowed.

If they are ready to shed and get in their water dish a lot of the skin will come off and float around in the water. In some cases they will actually shed in their dish. Always change the water and rinse with de-chlorinated water after your frog has been in the water. Otherwise bacteria and algea will begin to grow and make your frog sick. To prevent the water from becoming stagnant change it every 2 days if your frog hasn't used it as bacteria still will grow.

Are you talking about in the water or on the water's surface? If it's in water than it's most likely shed like already stated but if it's on the water's surface it's becoming stagnant and needs a change.

I see it in Tank's water sometimes too although I've never seen him shed. He must eat the rest bc it's never in his home, and he sure is growing. I hope I catch him shedding some time .

You must be keeping his conditions perfect and he is getting plenty of nutrition. Especially since you've never seen any skin still stuck on him or in his water. No bad sheds is very good.

Heather, does your pacman shed in it's water bowl? My toad digs a deep hole in the sand, and sheds in it.

A bad shed would be when there are little bits of skin that are hanging off the frog I think? That or a lazy pac!

Lol! Tank must be a type A, like me , lol! He soaks every night after he eats. I betcha that's why I never see pieces on him.

I remember when my old salamanders would shed. They'd pull it off in one piece. Looked like those one piece zip-up kids pj's, lol!

Mine soaks constantly too, have only seen bits hang off him a couple of times. Watching them shed is pretty funny, Sprout makes some hilarious 'expressions'

Yeah bad sheds will have dried pieces of the skin still attached to the frog. Usually around the belly/front arms/and on their head usually around the eues and nose where they can't reach. If I see one of my frogs has had a bad shed I will soak them in warm water to loosen the skin and gently pull it off. If its on their face o use a cotton swab dipped in de-chlorinated water. Its very irritating for them as the skin itches like ours does when it. Is dry.

He must have Lol! Humidity is a major factor in how easily their shed comes off. If its too high the skin becomes really easily torn so it breaks apart and they can't pull it all off in one piece. If its too low it also comes off in pieces but it looks dry and like its being torn off in strips. If its just right they can pull it all off to their mouth where they can chomp it down. Their true colors come through right after they shed. Their colors are so bright and defined.
