Thread: Do White's Like Tight Spaces?

Default Do White's Like Tight Spaces?

I saw the thread about someone's White getting stuck in bamboo, now mind climbed into the water filter!

The kind of filter I have doesn't retain it's lid very well but the stuff directly under the lid doesn't contain spinning blades or anything dangerous I think. None the less I was not pleased to find Retsu-chi wedged in there when I went to turn on his heat lamp today I tried to pull him out like I usually do when I pick him up, but he pulled back and refuse to come out. I didn't want to pinch him and after a while I had to resort to tipping the filter upside down and shaking him out. (He seemed pretty shaken when he got out ) The moment he fell out I caught him on my hand and tried to inspect him to make sure he wasn't damaged (I worried that I'd pinched his leg trying to pull him out) but he seemed fine. He climbed up my arm until I let him down and then immediately tried to get back in the filter!

Needless to say I scooped the filter out of the tank before he could try that again. I duct taped the lid to the rest of it to prevent him from sneaking back in there. In the meantime he found a spot between my bamboo and the aquarium to wedge himself. (He got out on his own after a few hours, thus I deem that not to be a threat.)

Anyway. Frog seems healthy and undamaged by this but, do these kinds of frogs normally like to wedge themselves in compact areas? It seems odd that any frog would try so hard to go back into something they were rudely shaken out of.

I think they do this for security. Perhaps you need to provide better cover/hiding spaces?

White's are very determined frogs. Once they find somewhere they like to be, they don't forget and try despirately to get back to their new favorite spots.

yup. I had to remove my cork board because he always sat on top and wouldn't leave there.

yup, very determined. I now have two of these guys that have somehow learned how to rip open screen. Jade did it to escape his old encloser and now my little guy Scooter pulled it open on his tank so he can sit on it.

For some reason mine never attempts to leave his cage unless I open the lid.

The lid isn't very heavy but he never attempts it. If I open it for him though he'll immediately get to work on getting out and making his way to either the cricket cage, or to the book shelf for hiding/sleeping purposes. (Such schemers. )
