I understand that at some point in adulthood and at a certain size, a pyxie frog's growth rate may decrease significantly. Is is possible for growth to slow down for smaller pyxie frogs (3-4 inches) and what might be the reasons for this?
My frog has maintained the same SVL since september when it started to get cold out. The heat in the tank was a steady 78-82 degrees at 65% humidity. The frog burrowed for about 6 weeks and formed a cocoon of skin. From what I have read, the conditions in the tank should not have caused my frog to go into aestavation (or however you spell it). Is there a reason for this as well?
It is now in an all water tank with a water heater set at 84 with air temps at 80 degrees.
I myself don't have a GAF but have heard that them as well as Pacmans will by instict try to go dormant or hibernate on their own by instict. That definetly doesn't sound like the correct conditions for your frog to do this though. Was your substrate dryer than usual?
Nope, the substrate was nice and damp, but not wet.
but if you gabf is an adult i think they know it almost so they may start go down if he an adult you might wont to astivate him for the winter
