I was cleaning his tank out and there was a worm buried in the sub, so I dug it out. I dropped it in front of him and he took it, as well as one more lol. I guess he was hungry! Thanks for the info!

He pooped a lot actually lol!

I just switched him to a 70/30 water/gravel-moss setup and found a bunch of poops. Also, I am aware of the impaction issues both of moss/gravel can pose. I don't intend on feeding on it so no worries :]

I just switched my pyxie to water, and already noticed an improvement. She refused to eat for weeks, and after one day of her being in water she's eating again! I figured I would try it on my pac. He hasn't left the water yet! So, I'm thinking I'm going to stick with a higher water to land ratio from now on. Water changes will be done once to twice a day depending.

Why is it ok for adults, but not babies that sounds strange?

A good baby tank is moist coco fiber substrate with a water dish and a hide plant or cave.

    Something like this...

The right side is the warm side of the tank and the left is the cooler. Then he can chose which end he prefers to be in at a given time. With my room a little chilly, I moved his water to the center, but it's usually on the cooler side.

My baby is currently buried in the back right corner with just his eyes peeking.

    Does this help?

Your setup looks great, but I personally don't like coco fiber anymore. I've been talking to a member of this forum, and he's had some bad luck with it. I'm not naming names, but he's had a fair share of issues with the stuff. I don't see a problem with using what I have setup for him. He's got the proper heat, and has a place to dig if he so chooses. I also don't like coco fiber because every time I feed him on it, he always gets it jammed up in his mouth. And once that happens he opt's not to eat...Since I put him in his new setup he has yet to leave the water lol! I think they like being in water just as much as being in a terrestrial setup. I'll go as far as saying it's a better idea just because the experience with my pyxie that was on coco fiber. It's just a matter of keeping up with it, and making sure the water is clean. I think I'm going to run to petco in an hour or so and pick up a 5 gallon to make it bigger, and to add a heat lamp to assure proper temps, and get a filter. I would like to hear what kind of information you have that can conclude this IS a bad setup, and that yours is indeed the better setup. Not trying to make a pissing contest out of this at all, but I still have yet to hear any definitive proof that coco fiber is superior. Only thing I seem to notice is it's popularity, but I'm failing to see why. Just a friendly debate :]

Just have to make sure the rocks are large enough not to be swallowed. See if you can find the post on here with the X-ray of the frog who swallowed rocks.

The theory is that the coco fiber is digestible and will pass through their stool. I pack mine down in all the areas except where he burrows, so my baby rarely gets much.

Have you used this set up for long? Its been working well for you?

Hee hee! No worries on the debating . I'm always up for hearing new ideas that work well .

I've not had an bad experiences on the coco fiber. You have?

Well, I can't say that I've used the setup long because it's only day one lol. I said in an earlier post on this thread that I won't be feeding him on the moss or gravel. He's a pretty outgoing frog, and I can remove him from his enclosure to feed. I also know that if enough coco fiber is ingested it can also cause impaction just like gravel, or moss. Obviously the rocks are WAY harder to pass through their system. But like I said I have no intentions on feeding him inside his enclosure, so no worries. I have seen the picture of the budgetts that did that. They are an aquatic species and I'm pretty sure it was fed in it's enclosure, and accidentally swallowed some. I know of lots of people who keep their pacmans in JUST water. I don't agree with that method, but I do believe they are quite fond for water. Like I said he hasn't left his pool yet haha! And my pyxie frog that I just got doesn't seem to like the coco fiber setup. She buried herself completely for weeks, and wouldn't eat. I put her in water last night, and now she's eating again. She also seems to be displaying a more alert look to her. So between my pyxie and my pac constantly losing his appetite over a mouthful of dirt I'm a believer in the water setup!

Hmmm...well, it sounds like it may work for you if you feed outside of the tank. Keep us posted .

My baby is an aggressive eater. He doesn't mind being picked up either. "Tank" loves to soak too. He's in his water hole daily and it helps him to pass his feces. I can see where yours could love the water . And, he'll be well-hydrated, lol!

Do you have any close-ups of your frog?

Most frog owners use the coco fiber because not only is it passed easily through the frog digestive track but also because moss and gravel cannot be broken down by the frogs digestive system. They can't. Digest plant materials. They can't digest the coco fiber either but the fine grind. Allows them to pass it . Now they are a ambush predator which burrows in the soil to hide and wait for prey. They don't sit in water waiting for food. Coco fiber is used for this reason. Top soil is also good. Moss is just fine as long as the frog is fed in a different container. Your setup is nice and probably does work well but it is not in their nature to remain in water without burrowing soil except during breeding time when the mate as it is done with in water. This is why it is not only prefered as a substrate but makes for a more natural home for this particular fmily of frog.

Also, pyxies and pacmans are not even the same genus. What is good for one may not be good for the other.

Yeah personal preference plays a huge role in this. If it works and the frog is healthy why not. Cleaning the water is a pain without a water filtration syatem though. I hope it works for you and your frogs. Nice Pacman by the way.
