Hi all,
Our toads have more or less stopped eating this last week since it has started cooling off quite sudden.
Is it normal that the toads won't eat (or eat less) during the winter?
Thanks!
This is my first winter, with fire bellies as well. I'm noticing the same trend, except they are eating less not stopping completely. Correct me if I’m wrong but that sounds like there is something wrong.
again same here, first winter... toads slowing down with their eating although not completely
I have two american toads, and niether are slowing down, I just recently bought some crickets (instead of there usual 2-3 nightcrawlers a day each) and dropped 15 in their terrarium, there was 2 left this morning... Are you guys keeping the temps in your terrariums up to the same level they were at a few months ago, the changing temps might have something to do with it.
oh yeah the temps are definitely lower, but this would just be a natural simulation of the wild; i would imagine it is more beneficial to the animal to allow this to happen (i may be wrong mind) not to keep their bodies running flat out all the time
mine are doing the opposite - granted they're in a smaller critter carrier while the silicone in their new tank is curing, but my guys are constantly hopping around and they're appetite is normal.
