Humidity drops after wetting foam log?

today i attempted to get the humidity up for my firebellys since it was way to low. i quickly soaked the foam log that was in there in my tap water (no chlorine in it just a bit of iron) and it worked good for the first hour and kept the humidity nice and high, but now it just dropped a whole lot and went down to 10%, which is way to low for my firebellys. its going back up to the normal before i weted the log but i dont want to wet the log before i know whats up with that. like is it my temperature & humidty thing messed up or is it something else and what should i do to keep the humidity up besides soaking it like that??

Post a pic of the whole enclosure, and try to include in the pic lighting and top.

Most humidity will escape through the top so the less screen material and more glass or plexi coverage you have the more humidity is less likely to escape. Also, lighting and excessive ventilation will have a big effect on humidity. Placement of the gauge is important too since you want to check the levels at the area the frogs are and not near the top.

One thing to remember too is that many of these gauges are not perfect. Since your firebelly tank is a lot of water it would be hard to fathom the humidity dropping to 10 percent.

ok well my guage is near the top so ill move it in a minute and see what it says then. also my tank is not a perfect firebelly tank so it isnt mostly water and i only have a water dish but i do plan on making it better later on. and its weird because the humidity is normaly at 30% with no misting or anything, goes up to 50% after wetting the log, 75% after spraying and wetting log, but a day later its about 10% normaly and misting barely helps. well heres a pic of the setup

Probably too much ventilation, and a light misting will get evaporated quickly by the heat lamp.

I would move the light over the waterdish a littlemore (will help evaporate the water, which will raise the humidity) and then cover the other side of the tank with some plastic, or something. I would hide a clear piece of plastic wedged under the lid against the tank.

I agree. You are definitely losing a lot of humidity through the open top. Just cover part of the top and move the light and you should be all set.

well today one of my firebellys escaped. my favourite one and he climbed right out and i cant find him. never locked lid so he got out. he was the one that was hiding so i aint so concerned now but im going to look into another lid cause i havent got one yet and i might just cover part of the screen with a peice of plastic or something. thanks for the help guys
