Feeding question.

Should I increase the amount of food my pacman frog eats as he/she grows? Lately, he/she has been demolishing three large crickets within minutes of them entering the cage. I'm going to throw in 5 tonight to see how he/she handles it, but I was wondering if it's a good idea to increase their meal size as they grow?

Yes, increase the food amount. They need lots of nutrition while they are growing. They will usually stop eating when they have had their full. Another way is to offer as much food as they want for 15 minutes. When your pac reaches adulthood, you'll reduce the amount. But for younger frogs it is essential that they get lots of nutrition. Offer food every night and make sure you use vitamin supplements and calcium dust so your frog will develope properly.

Thanks! I put them in about 10 minutes ago, and thus far he/she has eaten 3. I dust the crickets with calcium powder and multivitamins every night. He/she has seemed to been growing faster since I put the heating pad on the terrarium full time - it stays between 80 and 82 degrees.

That is where it should stay. Humidity should stay at 80%. This will allow for easier shedding. You should only dust with a mutivitamin once or twice a week and not at the same time as the calcium dust because iyour frog won't receive the full benefit from either if given at the same time. Calcium dust should be every other feeding and the multivitamin once or twice a week preferably in between the calcium dustings first day of the week so you can keep track easier. Make a schedule like that. Offer a variety of foods during this period of rapid growth as the frog will benefit highly from different nutritional sources. Chunks of night crawler/red wigglers/horn worms/ext. All good.

I figured giving him/her both would allow him to have the nutritional benefits from both, but I'll change that! Tanks for the info. Will be picking up either red wigglers or night crawlers this weekend.

Yes, supplements and vitamins fed on the same day can and will cause digestive uptake in your pacman. This will result in his system not having the ability to properly digest and extract the minerals/nutrients being fed to him.

I prefer night crawlers over red wigglers, but if your pacman is still a baby and you don't choose to cut a night crawler in half because it's too big - then go ahead.
