    Default Hurt leg

My american green tree frog seems to have his leg hanging down when hes sitting. If i put my finger under it he can lift it. It seems maybe that his foot wont grasp. Has anyone had an experiance like this? will it heal? It doesnt seem to bother him but is freaking me out.

    Hi sajane,

If this were my frog -this is what I would do. First, is the frog alone in the enclosure?

The leg sounds injured. Sorry. Is there something in the enclosure that he could have gotten his leg wedged into, does he have to flee from another frog, did you see him jump in a clumsy way from something. Let's face it -frogs are not the sharpest tools in the shed! Consider treating his leg like it is very badly sprained. Consider putting him in a smaller container ( within his current enclosure) so he can't move much. It should be well ventilated, have dampened paper towels on the bottom , and covered in a way that he can not get out of this little mini hospital area. This way, you would be able to rest his leg, and make eating easy for him. Do you have any pics of is leg and/or of the enclosure? Pics always help. Is there a vet you could call?

It is impossible to determine the level of injury just because he moves it when touched. I would not touch it. Tempting, I know, because you feel bad and your first instinct is to see if he can move it .

As you know, there are many experienced frog owners here; let's see what others think also. Hang in there.

yes, i just put him in a bigger cage, he may have gotten injured.during the change or with so much more room.it doesnt seem to bother him but i could put him in a hosptal cage although i think that would really stress him out. i have had him for 3 years with no problems.

Frogs are survivors and when injured don't show pain unless handled. They usually learn to adapt to the problem and sometimes its best to help by isolating to limit available movement, but best bet is to have it looked at if possible.

Sorry to hear he somehow became injured.

I would get him looked at, and the hospital cage looks like a good idea, though I am no frog expert/and or vet.
