I had the gecko setup in the middle of the room. With the wireless flash pointing down at the gecko, everything else is just dark with only objects that flash hits shows up.

Camera settings:

1/200 sec at f14, ISO 50

f14? Wonder if it's got to do with your iso settings? I'd love to try to do this with my old FujiFilm S2 Pro.

It's all the settings combined and having subject as far from wall or any other objects as possible. If I was to shoot these pictures with the above settings but without flash all I'll get is a dark screen.
