Hi i have a question if anyone can help me. I cought a grey tree frog in the end of august from a friends pool. And now i am thinking about letting him go because he seems like every time we hold him he really is not happy being in captivity. He is constantly just trying to get away. My question is, is it too late in the season to let him go, due to the cold temperatures? Other frogs are hybernating by now i believe, and hes not since hes been inside where its warm. Im afraid of him dying if i let him free. Any opinion
Frogs are not the kind of pets that need or want to be held, they are mostly look but don't touch kind of critters. Grays are pretty adaptable to captivity but if you were hoping for a pet you could play with, you (and it) might be better off putting it back near where you found it.
I found a couple of Grays outside today and I'm north of you (in Ontario), so they certainly haven't all headed into hibernation yet. I'm not sure what kind of build up they need to gear up for their winter freeze, but it is pretty warm out still so I expect it would be alright if you released it.
Frogs aren't really keen to be held anyways even my captive bred frogs don't enjoy it as of the question of whether it's too late to let it go personally I wouldn't do it but it's up to you.
