I am getting ready to setup two new tanks for my frogs.. I heard moth and slipper orchads grow well in that enviornemt... will they harm my white dumpys, or my red eye's, or my Grays... any other big leaf plants I might want to avoid that lowes sells?
As an orchid keeper I wouldn't recommend it. It is less about risk to the frogs and more about durability. orchids are fragile and would not hold up well to frog traffic. With red eyes preferring broad leaves and grays preferring horizontal branches I do not think the frogs would care one way or another.
Watching FrogTV because it is better when someone else has to maintain the enclosure!
cool... my red eys are looking forward to nice lush broad leaves... I have them in a 10 gallon temp tank till their 40 gallon cube comes in... so every morning I cut them a fresh branch with leaves of dogwood for them to hang on all day... they love to cling on the leaves and the bright green dogwood leaves make them disapear. but by the next morning the leaves are dry... UPS says both tanks will be in today... so this weekned... I get to plant and transpant the frogs... and find a place for the new cubes in the house... I have the grays in a 40 now... its hard to find a spot with electirc and in a corner to put them... so they don't stick out to bad... my wife likes the neat orginized house with everything placed just so... the first tank worked... now to slip in the 2nd and 3rd tank... so they don't have to live next to the bullfrogs in the basement...
Speaking of bullfrogs, I read in Reptiles recently that 306 Of 493 bullfrogs taken from markets in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York City tested positive for Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis, AKA chytrid.
Also 50 of 588 bullfrogs tested positive for ranaviruses.
Just something to think about when keeping bullfrogs and other frogs. Follow all safety protocols, to prevent cross infection. Nothing that comes in contact with the bullfrogs should come in contact with your other frogs, unless treated by a bleach & water solution, baking, or boiling. After handling the bullfrogs, wash your hands with a perfumeless alcohol gel.
