My 4 Grays were out hunting and I decided to briefly mist the tank to both bring the humidity up and make their food a little more active. I turned around to put the bottle back and heard one of them chirp. I actually jumped because I'd never heard it before, and to me, it sounded more like the squeak I would imagine a mouse would make if someone stepped on it, lol.
Does this mean anything in particular? Though I'm aware they do chirp, I don't know under what circumstances, except if one is being bothered by another. Did I somehow stress them by misting the tank? Each was on its own perch in various locations, so I'm not sure what prompted it. I also still have no idea what sex they are, as they're all about the same size and their throats all look the same. Not to mention they're only a little over 3 months old.![]()
That's neat actually. Frogs will chirp for various reasons: change in humidity, temperature, or barometric pressure from the result of weather (i.e. rainstorms, snowfall, thunderstorms, etc...). Since you misted their tank, you increased the humidity level and thus stimulated their vocal activity. Most frogs will chirp as a result of a misting....my frogs do that sometimes. I don't believe that you stressed your frogs out either, so don't worry.
And maybe you have a young male on your hands, a musical one too!
