So orchid my female pacman frog(albino that changes colors to green sometimes), is now 2.5inches or so. She's like a lil over 5months. When will she hit the 5-6inch mark? She used to be underfed that's why she's not bigger right now. Any chance she will grow bigger? I'd love to have her be the biggest she can possibly be. Like the max 8inch would be awesome. I heard some have em that big. I'm feeding her nightcrawlers and canadian red worms. Ocassional pinkie mice. No crickets anymore. Since she never goes after them and they're a pain in the **** to deal with cause they climb out and stuff(even with lid they still find a way).
Sounds like she is growing pretty slowly. Malcolm was 2" at 4 and a half months, which is slow growing, but he was a male.
I am just curious, at such a young age how do you know/assume that it is a female? Females grow larger than males, so the growth rate would be more regular if it was a male, even taking underfeeding into account. It is pretty hard to sex a female, and size is one of the major methods. Even full grown, a female Ceratophrys cranwelli (which is what yours is because she's albino) doesn't very often exceed 6". The Ornate Pacman Frog females are the ones that get up to 8". Many care articles (not ours) confuse the C.cranwelli with C.ornata and often will use them interchangebly.
I totally understand where you are coming from with the crickets! I went to an expo and picked up my albino, but not having any tiny crickets I had to get some. The smallest quantity available was 1,000, so I have been chasing crickets all week. Probably too many for my 5 gallon tank!! Have you looking into dubia roaches? I hear they are cleaner, they don't smell, and are more nutricious.
I know it's a she because when I poke her sometimes(Please don't hate me for it lol-- i do it gently) and pick her up from the sides and such. she never peeps and never opens her mouth. She never makes an un-mounting call like all males would. she seems to be growing but at a slower rate. Maybe it was the temps. Her temps were at 72degrees cause I thought that was the temp then found out its actually up to 75degrees that's when she grew bigger.
I'd get roaches. But my parents would flip if I ever dared to even bring one inside the house. They're old fashioned and that's just too gross for them. Most I can do is worms, crickets. But no roaches.
Lower temps will stunt their growth as well as malnurishment. For maximum growth speed the temp probably should be around 80. Humidity levels also effect growth rates. 2.5 at 5 months isn't unheard of. They do go through growth spurts. I believe that the Cranwelli could reach a max size of 8". Just because most only hit 5 or 5.5 some even 7 as females ofcourse. Males can reach larger sizes as well3" to 3.5" for males is the overall average. It doesn't mean that a monster isn't lurking in your stunted female just waiting for the right nutrients to cause an explosion.
