These are what's in the Pacman Food from Samurai Japan. I'm a little worried about the nicotinic acid. Sounds like nicotine. Probably to make the frog addicted to the food. Not sure, but if anyone sees anything in here that is bad for frogs please post.
We bought it a while back and used it.....no adverse effects on the frogs at all. They loved it.
Ive kinda taken an interest in this stuff, mostly as a novelty. From what I can tell by looking at the ingredients is that the fish meal makes up the basis of the protein source, then you have calcium and vitamins and minerals that are commonly found in "reptivite" type products, and the various starches and seed pwoders are most likely binding agents to help it cake into a ball, such as the Plantago seed powder which when mixed with water is very gummy and balls up.
It really wouldnt be all that hard to formulate something similar, calcium and vitamins for reptiles could be obtained from any pet store, and most of the other ingredients can be found online easily. You could play around with amounts until you find the right consistency. It may take some careful consideration with the vitamins though.
I think Im gonna try the product.
Every once in a while when I catch a bullhead when fishing, a clean it and feed strips of it dipped in calcium and D3 to my frogs and they really like it. Fish meal may be even better and more nutritious considering that it contains the meat, ofal and bones. If only I had a food dehydrator.
And no, nicotinic acid isnt from nicotine, its niacin, which may even help the frogs keep their cholesterol low though most of the fish oils and fats are removed from fish meal.
