have a albino pacman frog. a few minutes ago i went to clean her cage and when i tried to take her out she kinda screamed and then she froze and she closed her eyes and wasnt moving. her legs were all stretched out. i panicked and immediately put her in water. Shes jumping now, but can anyone tell me why this happened and how to prevent it![]()

You probably just scared her, but leaving the legs stretched out like that sounds a bit odd. Please answer the questions Eli posted so we can tell if there is any issue with the husbandry.

Im putting my money on her getting scared.
sorry i got locked out of my account
its a cranwelli. im currently cleaning the tank so i cant send a picture now
this is the best that i can do for the picture of her.
its a 10 gallon tank.
Shes the only one that lives there.
First frog that i have'd own
No tank mate
temperature is 80 degrees
humidity is 55
i have a reptile heat mat
i have no lighting because i heard that it dries out the soil faster
i change the water daily. sometimes i use bottled water other times i use tap water that has been de-chlorinated. i take the old soil out every month and use apple vinegar to clean the entire tank
bottled water or de-chlorinated water is used for misting and for the dish
the de-chlorinater is used its called reptisafe
i use eco earth coco fiber as a substrate
i unplugged the heater and waited for it to cool down, i took the frog out and put it in water. i dumped all of the old soil out and used vinegar to clean it, i put all of the decorations in hot water. waited for it to dry. put in new soil and the decorations.
artificial plants are plastic theyre small and she never goes near them
i have a static background outside of the tank. one plastic hide with tape around the edges so she doesnt hurt herself and one wood hide but looking for another one because shes outgrowing it
she ate 3 crickets dust with multi vitamins this morning
she pooped this morning
she is fed every other day
the feeders are 3/4 inch crickets
i give her waxworms as treats but not that much
main food source is crickets
my frog is bowl fed
i use exo terra multi vitamin once a week
i use zoo med repti cal with d3 3 times a week
no she always had calcium
i believe 5 months
i had her for 7 months she was the size of a quarter when i got her
i got her from a breeder
captive bred
i only handle her when i feed her or i clean her tank. no gloves are used i wash my hands before and after
low traffic area its above my dresser
yes she has. for all the time ive had her she hasnt gone near any animals
no medication![]()
you should raise the humidity and make earthworms the main food, roaches the second, crickets third. I think you should get a light as well.
Agreed, raise humidity.
If the heat mat is under the tank, recommend moving it to the side of tank. Pacmans burrow to stay cool and they can get burned.
Get a light, it helps them react to a proper photoperiod. If the soil is dry, mist more often.

ewww i hate worms.. my mom wont let me keep roaches in the house i asked already. guess my dads going to feed her the worms... is a regular light ok for an albino?
right now the humidity is at 60 because i just changed the soil so it has more moist
I believe so, just dont make it too bright. Just enough to make him/her aware that it is daytime.

ok and if the heater is on the side how will she get warm enough to digest her food. Thank you guys so, i was crying when it happened i dont wanna lose my little princess
the substrate and the tank will absorb the heat. if she feels she needs more heat, she will cuddle up against the wall with the heater.
thank you guys. ill do it first thing tomorrow right now shes sleeping dont wanna wake her![]()
It wasn't fear. It was a seizure.
It happens. Animals have seizures too. There is always a possibility that startling the frog triggered the seizure. There isn't anyway to know what caused it. Whether it be the frog being startled or an underlying issue. Most that I've seen are disease or illness related.
Keep an eye on the frog. If it happens again you may want to have a fecal exam done or just take the frog to the Vet to be examined.
They rarely go into a state of catatonia when scared.
I don't like anything where someone says they close their eyes for an extended period or stretch out the back legs. Anything that would make them less able to see and get away from a predator is probably not something they are choosing to do.
