    Default Hey everybody :D

ok I've been lurking around this forum 3 days before i got my frog which was the 17th of this month. i started off with a simple cage echo moss (store diddnt have cocofiber) and a small dish. 3 days after i got the thermometer and the humidity thermometer forgot what its called lol, 4 days ago i got my heater and today i finally found a store with cocofiber and i got him a lil hideout. When i got the frog who right now I'm calling paquiao which is probably the most unoriginal name but who cares, he was in a small critter cage in a petsmart near buy which had at least 10 crickets running around and the humidity was only at 60 and the temperature was at 90 and by reading most of the conversations and questions here i already knew they needed to be in at least 75 humidity and i was pretty sure 90 degrees was to hot so i decided to buy him right there and then plus the fact he was 16 dollars was a steal. The worker told me the frog has been there for about a month already and nobody would buy him, so after a few paper work for the permit the frog was on its way to a nice home. today i switched the moss with the cocofiber and added the little hide out which probably means its gonna take a while for him to get use to his new environment once again. only thing thats weird was right when i put him in the cage well him or her, it started to open his mouth and close it sort of like it was trying to croak. idk if thats a bad sign or what. I let it soak while i cleaned and changed its cage which took me about an hour and he shed some skin off as well, but anyways i before i keep babbling on because i take this frog like a son believe it or not lol heres some pictures and i just wanted to stop and say hi
    First day i got him

    Welcome to the forum!

Sounds like you are taking good care of your new family member. I love to see people do lots of research before buying a frog instead of just getting one improptu.

I couldn't tell you for sure, but in my personal experience the open and close mouth thing is what mine did when he was really hungry, after he swallowed something (like cocofiber or a cricket), or when he was too hot. You mentioned a temp of 90, which is abit hot for Pacman Frogs. If you can take it down afew degrees (80-85 is prefered during the day) then your Pacman Frog would appreciate it, but I understand that it can be hard to get temps down (believe me, living in Texas, I know).

If you need any additional information you can always ask. The forum also has a Pacman Frog Care Article.

Either way, welcome to the forum!

Congratulations and welcome to the forum! Opening and closing their mouths is normal. They do it when the swallow. You mentioned that it shed right after... mine always start their shedding process by opening their mouths then puffing up. Pacman frogs eat their shed. This is just normal frog behavior.

Like MeTree said, check out the care sheet if you haven't already. Never hesitate to ask any questions! People on this forum are very friendly and we just want to see healthy frogs and happy frog-keepers! Good luck!

I have heard many people say that pinky mice can be fed when the Pacman Frog is 2" from snout to vent. This is what I did for mine, and he seemed Ok with it. I'd only recomend 1 pinky per month (max) until the Pacmna Frog gets to be over 2 1/2". After that you can upgrade him a peach fuzzy a month if you want. Some people do more (though I can't recomend it personally), and some people do less, so I imagine that their are many opinions.

Your pac is definitely too small for pinkies! But don't worry, they grow so fast; in a month or two you will look back at these pictures and think, "Wow! I can't believe how tiny he was!" I second what MeTree said. Even once your pac is big enough, you shouldn't feed more than one pinky every month or so. Opinions will vary, but mice are definitely fattening. Too many mice can lead too obesity, blindness, and other health problems. They also take a lot longer to digest than other foods. Vary its diet with crickets, worms, etc and make sure you use calcium dust, and your little froggie won't be little for long!

They do grow fast. To slow their growth put them in the fridge. In for a day out for a day. This slows hornworm growth so you still have small enough ones to feed your frog. Grif loves Hornworms he can't resist.
