yea, was a hair big for em. next time I feed him them I'm sure it will be big enough to handle them fine.

I feed a pinky for the first time this week too. Seemed to like it. I did take some pointers from your setup. I need to add more bedding. I bet your frog digs all over the place.

I use rodents If its a life or death situation. Very very sparingly. Too much causes blindness, and organ issues and of curse you heard this before ,obesity.

yea I like the deep substrate and it appears too also. He digs all the way to the bottom lately. funny seeing his fat gut on the bottom, haha

I figure every once and a while can't be that bad. No doubt the frogs come across them in the wild quite often and gobble them up.

Not as often as you think. They eat mostly there own kind, Then they eat bugs, snakes ,rodents and birds.

I can tell you, that was not a hopper. I breed HUNDREDS of mice and rats for the snakes, and that was a sm adult weighing about 15g. Hoppers will run about 5-10g which are aka Weaned mice.

That mouse is a little too big, a pinkie fed sparingly to Junk at that size would be suitable. Good that you know to pre-kill it though, that's always a concern when they tackle a mouse and the head is still outside their jaw. I believe in the wild these frogs deal with a lot more invertebrates than rodents, reptiles and or amphibians. While a mouse fed occasionally can offer great protein and a good Ca:Ph ratio, it's very hard on their digestive organs to process the mammalian tissue causing complications later on in life if fed too often. Great for a little bit of variety every month or two though. Anyway back to the video, love that little guy Rob. Can't wait to see Junk grow more, looks like he has a good personality in the video. Just doesn't care about all the distractions and what not haha, mines a tough one to keep calm. From the looks of it I would say your frog is a 2 1/2 month - 3 month old female if I had to guess. Leaning more on the side of a female, you said you always got room for one more though . Great video man, love to see updates on him or her. You should do an update on your whole bathroom with the roaches and him included with commentary haha. +1

Thanks for the insight with your experence. I bought the mouse as a hopper. The shop i bought him from charged $2.49 each, which made me flip, because I seem to remember them being much cheaper. We bought 3 of them, fed the other two to our beardies, and the bill ended up being just over $8, for three dang small mice. So glad im getting a ASF colony in a few days, haha

I won't be feeding them to him that often, maybe once every two weeks at most. but with my dubia colony, its no problem to have a good staple food.

Here are some updated pictures of junk.

September 12th (two weeks or so ago)

    These where taken this morning.

A video showing all my critters is a good idea, might just have to do that soon

here is a dubia update while im at it.

    sept 12th

    yesterday

not all breeding, I've added about 600 roaches that I've gotten from people since the last picture. But I should be around 1200-1400 as of right now. shouldn't need to buy any more to add to the colony. hopefully its enough to really get breeding smoking along.

here is a link to the picture of the roaches if you wanna look at them closer

Why i breed my own rodents for the snakes. I sell them to petco, petsmart and ma pa shop for .75 each and they turn and sell them to you for 2-3$ each.

Also With the beardie, if you have to feed mice, do so with pinkies. The beardies have harder time digesting it than the frog will. Using pinkies who have no bone development yet will make it somewhat easier to digest. And only feed sparingly if the Beardie is in need of packing weight on.

Ive had to help a few beardies who were fed only mice. They were impacted from not having the gut flora to properly digest mice.

wow, those are some big contracts to have selling mice too! congrats!

The beardie I fed them too is very under weight/size. I got her from a reptile rescue that said he is two years old, and neglected. shes the size of a 6 month old, and very dark color, like she has never had heat or something. She almost completely ignores roaches and crickets, but you drop a pinkie in there and she will attack it like a monitor lizard does.

thats a little to big of a mouse for that female in my opinion. Thats a perfect way for a life to obesity, i would do a little smaller frozen once a month.

On the contrary, monitors arent supposed to eat mice either. their Purely insectivores, why youll never see one past 10 years old as they die of obesity and liver problems.

contract i got is NOT that big. One a month i sell to petco and few other in area about 40 mice each. Which lasts them roughly a month and helps myself out from being over ran.

well I just ment in aggression is all.

I thought you ment you supplyed multiple stores. I can see how 40 a month at .75 cents each is not to profitable.

The stores i sell too buy between 40-60 a month so i sell close to 200 a month to all the stores. Just enough to pay for the rodents food. Which works for me..

well thats good. Makes it semi-worth it.

BTW, Made a new purchase yesterday

It's a female coral albino boa. Planing on raising it up and breeding it. Got offered a deal I couldn't refuse after seeing the snake in person. Way nicer then it looks in the pictures. The tail is BRIGHT orange/red, like a flower, or a creamsicle popsicle. Should be very cool!

awww dont be mad your "monster pixie" is an obese female that you think is a male. You know nothing about bullfrogs so stick to breeding mice.

Here you go acting like a little kid again. funny trend with you.

Your attempts to anger me with your childish comments about my animals is pathetic, and I'll remind you again that you are violating forum rules.
