my fbts keep trying to mate and their both males ._. what should I do?
Point and giggle.
You can try to get some females. I do beleive there is a thread that mentions how to sex them.
Do Fire Bellied toads have a release call?
Yes, they do. I really don't know how to describe it.
Oh ok thanks
You're welcome.
Does it sound like "NOO means NOOO!!"
Several years ago i had a pair of B.orientalis males that would amplex year round...
At first it was a laugh, as you can imagine, there were many jokes about it, but eventually it became very irritating because the release call really got on my nerves.
It´s quite a mild sound, not really annoying except if you are like me.
Anyway, as long as you don´t care about the ocassional sound, you don´t have to do anything at all, it´s not bad for them to amplex...
He He...May be they are just practising.![]()
There more to it than that. Like the length of the toes and so on.
ehh I personally think its more of the girth and pads.
Could you maybe describe sexing them in a fuller fashion.
Well. Firstly I kinda had a weird feeling. So thats my personal instincts. But. What I could see. Was if it has a plump, round body, (same way you sex a female TOAD) , l dont remember if it was longer toes, but I remember seeing a little black ball inside the toes like the tip of the toes and it was rounded. Not only that, the ones I assumed to be a male were more "hoppity" and the females just sat there uncaring, and oblivious while males were more alert and aware of sorroundings. Thats my guesstimate. I work in a petstore and I try not to tell t his to costumers. Usually I just tell them Usually plump body, but its better to go by the book and read a book about it rather than ask.
There was a post on sexing Bombina maxima somewhere on the forum. It can't be that different.
I have a mix of both males and females in my vivarium and they don't care whose who. Whoever is closer gets the attention, wanted or not. About the only time they aren't doing the toad nasty with each other is when it is feeding time, though one of my brownies is quite skilled at mounting and eating at the same time. He has a gift-I'm trying to figure out how I can make millions off of it. So far, nothing has leaped (no pun intended) to mind.
Yesterday i caught two of my young juveniles amplexing!! They are under 2,5cm long or so (not counting the legs) so they are still tiny, i´m actually very very surprised.
Is it normal for them to start amplexing this young? I really wasn´t expecting it.
The amplexee also made the release call, although it was so soft it was almost funny. It looks like the days of irritating sounds are back....
I managed to get a picture of them, i´ll post it when i get back (i´m at home from the weekened).
