I have heard that there is 1 of the horned/pacman frogs that is more difficult to keep than the other's, is it the Fantasy or Ornate??
If this is right, which one is it, is it ok for a beginner??
Many thanks.

I have heard that the Amazon Horned frog (C.cornuta) is the hardest horned/pacman frog to keep as it is difficult to acclimate to the terrarium life. There are some very reliable pacman owners on here that could tell you more about the care of this frog or other pacman's that are good for begginers.![]()
The cornutas are difficult at times. The Fantasy frogs can be difficult as well.....they are notorious for being very picky secretive eaters. I would suggest a C.cranwelli for your first horned frog, they seem to be the hardiest of the bunch in my opinion.
That said, PLEASE do the research BEFORE you get the frog. Make sure you have all the supplies and that your setup is correct for the frog in size as well as substrate, heat, humidity. Please use de-chlorinated water and make sure the enclosure is clean and standing water is changed frequently........the frogs can easily Tox-Out.........which means they can absorb the toxins from their own waste and die from it.
Ask any & all questions.......someone here will answer.....plenty of experienced folks here to give a helping hand!
Good Luck!!
I agree with Jessica. Cranwellis are supposed to be the easiest to start with I have read a lot about C. Cornuta and the fantacy frog. The C.Cornuta do not adjust well to captive life. They often refuse to eat and are stressed easily. A lot of owners have to force feed them because they won't eat on their own. Wild caught are especially hard to keep for these reasons. Also the diet in the wild for the Amazonian (C. Cornuta) is comprised of other frogs which is the main part of their diet. Fantacy frogs have trouble with some of them being stressed all the time and having health issues do to this. Also they can be very picky eaters like Jessica said. Liking g to not be watched as the eat. On another note the fantacy frog being comprised of either Cranwelli x Cornuta/ Ornata x cornuta, and mixing the other species of horned frogs is sterile so if you want to breed and you have a Fantacy frog youre out of luck. Start with a Cranwelli and hone your skills. Do your research. Get well informed and feel free to ask questions.
Ornates are the best eaters.once you get them started you cant stop them.
Thanks very much, i have found a lovely place to get my new Pacman from, he has an Ornate, green & albino, now my personal opinion is..........i don't like albino's of any animal, something about their eyes, (sorry, i don't want to offend anyone). I think i will have the Ornata, they look lovely, they also are larger than the 2cm size the other place was selling.
