Thread: Questions on Pacs.

    Default Questions on Pacs.

Okay. I have my pacman lilly and I may get 2 more. (diff enclosures). I was wondering. I'ved seen at petstores put em in containers with shallow water(enough they can sit in with their nose poking out). Could I do a terrarium that's got a bottom of slate or something and has water in it with a small duetto filter and the water is only 2inch deep or 3(depending on the size of the pac)? I'ved seen this happen with some other guys and they seemed to be doing well. I was just going to get duckweed and stuff like that to get them feeling like they're covered. I'd give it an island so it can get into dry land but it wont be super big. Just big enough its whole body can be in it and possibly maybe a dish where the dish actually has moss for digging?

Another question. I buy her worms(I think its a she cause I poke her alot--- gently and She never croaks. I picked her up shes calm, never bites and never croaks.) anywho. the thing is. I gave her 4big fat canadian nightcrawlers today. Shes only 2.5inchs long and I wanted to get her to gain a bit of weight since I figured out I made a stupid mistake and only fed her once a week. Which I learned is a no no. So I gave her two newborn mice(pinkies-- no fur). she ate em quickly. And now she's eating worms like a hog.

    Any restrictions? Any suggestions?

I'm new to these guys too, but have gotten a lot of help from everyone on here. First off, stay away from mice. Only once to twice a month. And with a pacman that size I wouldn't feed more then one pink at a time. Your set-up sounds like a cool idea, but these guys are terrestrial and like to dig. I have seen them in just water eating fish, but this is a "no no" as you like to call it lol. I would personally just use coco fiber, and maybe some cage furnishings to decorate if you're looking to get creative. It seems keeping it simple with these guys ensures success.

i still think the water dish idea is better than set up a half land half water tank/filter
i thought abt it, and actually build one cuz it's just way to cool to have a running water in there. but after seeing their poops...NVM...it's way too much for the ecosystem to take inside a 20L, especially when they love to poop in the water.
instead of the 20L, i get another 10gal for him. (planing on remodel it a little since i get some background material left)
now I left with my 20L all set up ready to go without frog...time to go look for some residents lol

I'm not new here. lol. Just haven't been on in a long time. a really long time. The poop isn't a problem. I'd be doing a 20percent water change weekly. The filters I'd put would be kinda strong enough to pull up all the poop and the filter would have a filter floss that I can clean. So I can ensure cleanliness. The dish would have been the land area(ironic lol). It would be set up with digging substrate but yeh.

Lol I know. xD I wonder if I get my own title soon. <3 I wanna be called Toad King. Or Ambush Predator. Or. Lord of the toads. or King of toads. idk xD I'm just no super duper experienced in pacmans asides from their basics. Basically I have one in a 12inch long x 12inch wide and 12inch tall terrarium. She just sits there. All day long and rarely moves from spot. So that's all the space I'm going to give her. xD When I get my new exoterras(I'm getting two). OR I may just get one but that's larger. So I can put in a divider in it and save space by putting two pacmans in one enclosure but actually seperated(think about it). But the space would be like 24inch long x 18widex 18inch tall. This would give each their own space.

someone's probably going to say "bad idea, bad idea". But. I saw someone do it and the frogs are still alive STILL after two years of purchase from a run down store. xD But. I'll take advice either way. Never hurts to listen and to learn. We're all learning everyday. Doesn't matter how old we are, or how long we do something for. You could be in the frog hobby for 30years and still may not be a "pro". it's skill, not years. lol. xD

dont use clear divider or put background on it...problem solved!!
but i guess it would be a little trouble if you are still thinking about half/half tank

just a quick idea...since they cant really jump or climb divide the tank with decorations. something like a water fall in middle run down to both side, it should be fine if it's tall enough without too much slop.....(damn it, now i cant get it out of my head...i think i enjoy building the tank too much)

I wonder if they freak out and stress each other like that. Being next to each other. I know as a fact tarantulas get stressed like that, and they are blind. See that gou learn something everyday. This is a ongoing learning experience. The learning train has stops, but never ends.

I keep mine in a tray system. They are doing great. Once they graduate from their little container. They then get a 20x12x12 space for them selfs with 5 inches of 60/40 cocofiber/top soil. I interfear when i clean, feed, take pics, and study them. I keep stress level to a minimum.

i think it's because tarantulas detect it's surrounding by vibration on floor with it's feet(most spiders does that), putting right next to each other prob create too much movement for each other.
but pacman...i dont know...they dont even move in the tank...anyone want to test it out? lol

First of all, it' not comparable with a spider, they operate in totally different ways and the species are not even remotely related. Second of all, tarantulas are generally not blind at all. They just mostly rely on other senses, but they are not blind.

About the dividing project: I know Cheri have a divided tank, but with different dart frogs. Perhaps she could shed some light on this project for you. I personally have no knowledge I'm affraid.

Martin thank you for the info. Since I'm brand new to T's i was told from other people with T's that they feel vibrations and don't count on there sight. I was just told that in the last show Ive been to lol. You cant win.

I said the divider system because it would economically be better, and well cleaning would make it easier for me rather than seperately cleaning 3diff. tanks. And the dividers would have that laminated black aquarium background to avoid eye contact from each other. The tank would have large water areas. I know pacs love to dig, but on each division they could have a large area that they can burrow down to. While the rest is water. I prefer water I guess. But if I need to ill use regular dirt and stuff. lol. I just know mine is personally calm and rarely bites. It never bit me. Only bites whateverI put in front of her but sometimes I have to tick her off by poking her mouth with the food item. Not always though. Ussually she eats it on her own. But when I wanna see her eat it I do it.

I try to run efficient and give the frogs their space. I have a monitor lizard that is very shy. The more i give it space the more he likes me. Takes foof=d out of my hands. The same with frogs. You have to build that trust.

But frogs won't "like" you as a human friend. Well that's what I remember another member telling me on here. LOL. Anywho. My pac. I call her orchid(Some other names too). I have been feeding her more cause she was underfed before. So. I wanna give her good care. I want to give her more space but I'm sure she won't use it. She always sit in one darn corner and only hops to another occassionally.

Oh and she sometimes changes her color from bright yellow to slight light green. you still see the yellow but it's like a fusion. Not all the times.

When i say space. I mean live them alone. They like to be alone. They are loners. They get together only to breed .lol
