Default New Pick Up!! Hudson Valley Reptile Expo!!

I decided to pick up an Ornate Pacman Frog! At least this is what the guy was selling him as, and for 30 bucks I couldn't argue. It definitely appeared to have more coloring then most of normal pacmans that I've seen. So I believed him. I got him in my ball python hatching rack with a hot spot of 90 degree's, coco fiber, water dish, and small plant. I also fed him a horned worm that I picked up from the expo as well. Very excited about this little guy!! No idea what sex it is, and was actually wondering at what age it is obvious. Also, what do you guys suggest as a staple diet during these stages? Keep in mind I hate crickets, so anything other then crickets lol!! Here are some pics!

OH!! I was wondering how many tomato worms I should offer him at once when feeding him these? I'm aware these aren't a great staple. I bought them for my pyxie that isn't eating to try and stimulate it's appetite a bit.

Oh yeaa ,and theres no stopping any day soon.lol Check the bottom of his feet if they are dark or have dark marks then its a male. The markings are awesome.. I like the small spots on them, and yours is going to be all little marks with greenish yellow. Again excellent pick my friend.

I'll have to take a look soon, I'm pretty sure the feet we're light. And I was told the females have less spots on the throat, which this one seems to be displaying. Can you typically tell at this age or no?

You also have the right setup for him right know. Keep him at 80/65 for now and he'll be fine.

Thanks everyone!! Super stoked about the little guy!!

You think that one of those worms is good enough for him at one time? Or should I offer another?

Slow down.lol I know your'e excited and so am i.lol He is good for 24 hours. That was a big worm. He should be hungry tommarrow afternoon. Actually smaller meals come out faster. bigger meals take longer to brake down. I love to feed these guys.

    hahaha!

Yeah, they are a little TOO much fun I think! That's probably why there are so many accidental deaths with overfeeding!

    Beautiful Ornate!
Once they reach 7 months or so, the males will start developing Nuptual Pads.........the front feet on the "thumbs" there will appear dark , slightly rough patches that look like a mole..........they will also vocalize........LOUDLY.......during rains usually.
It is a C. ornata without a doubt!
Ours loves earthworms, roaches, crickets & pretty much anything it can fit in it's mouth! One Horned Worm should hold him over for at least one feeding. Looks like he'll turn out a nice green/gold!

Here is our guy....he is a high red.....

He's a chunk and is on a diet!

By the way, the busy pattern and the "Dots" behind the eyes are a sure give-away that they are Ornates!

    Wowza!!

That's a really nice looking frog you got there!! Love the red!! But yeah the spots are what caught my eye. I was just about to leave without anything, and then I saw this little guy and had to have him. He was with a bunch of normal crannies(no offense to cranwelli owners) and boy do they stand out! Can't wait till the little guy gets bigger!! Thanks for sharing your pics, and information!
