Thread: New fbt 20h build

    Default New fbt 20h build

Great way to start it, is with a brand new 20h from petco. I got all my materials together and glued carved a
3/4" piece of styrofoam into a bg. Primed it with latex enamel then thinned up some epoxy and painted a thin
coat. I covered the epoxy with fine sand to ruff-up the texture while it dried, after dried i shook, blew it off.
Painted it with acrylics to look like a rock wall.
I then started on a raised platform for the land area used a piece of eggcrate and foamed it with gs. I desided
togo with half rock and half siicone eco mix. Whew this took a few days, heres what i got so far.

That is fantastic. I can't wait to see the finished product. Lol....a few days? I think something like that would take me a few months.

very impressive build, well done. the idea of embedding the vine into the background is a nice touch. thought of that myself after my overhaul but meant cutting out the foam between the "rocks" so gave it a miss. look forward to the updates.
good luck with the rest of the project.

    That rock background looks wicked!

I've read a couple of posts saying they used egg crate, or egg box to raise the land part for drainage. Is egg crate something different in the US, 'cos in UK an egg crate is a cardboard box, so obviously no good for a water drainage area.... is it something different in America?

What we are calling eggcrate is a drop ceiling light diffuser. No eggs were harmed in this build.

Also s6t6 the vines is epoxied rope w/coir imbeded, then gorila glued on bg.

Yes I used the 1 in your first picture the cheapest they make is fine. Lots of people will use them for false bottoms, i used it for kinda a suspended bottom. Hope that helped.
